Baby Girl Henon, Sister to Audrey, Rosalie (Rosie), and Emily

Hi! I am 39 weeks with my third daughter, but somehow just came across your site and love it. I have an Audrey and a Rosalie (family name, goes by Rosie). I’m attracted to the more popular names although I wish I was more unique. Our top choices now are Amelia, Charlotte, Violet, and Sophie. Last name Henon (Hen-un). I should mention I have an angel baby, Emily, whom I lost oct 2018 at 22+2. The ending “y” sound isn’t a must for me, but has just been the names we have chosen. My top choice is violet, but am nervous of having a Rosie and violet because both are flowers and I don’t want to sound like a weirdo. I’m open to other name suggestions… as well as your thoughts on our top names and the “flower dilemma”. Thank you

If you had a daughter named Rose, I think I would be inclined against the name Violet, not only because it’s themey but because then there are two children participating in the theme and the rest not, and my personal preference would be to avoid that. Even if you had a Rosalie going mostly by the nickname Rose, I might feel disinclined toward Violet. But the nickname Rosie seems fine to me with Violet.

Another reason to lean toward the name Violet is that you wish you preferred less-popular names. Violet, at #43 in 2018 according to the Social Security Administration (the 2019 numbers aren’t expected until May), is the the second-least common of the group of finalists: Amelia and Charlotte are both in the Top 10, and Sophie is #98—but the variation Sophia is also Top 10, which can increase the feeling of popularity as well as the actual number of children going by Sophie.

Name perceptions can be very subjective, but for me the name Amelia is too close to the name Emily and I would take it off the list.

I think either Charlotte (Charlie/Lottie) or Sophie would go very nicely in this sibling set. I have a slight preference for the way Sophie sounds with your surname, but not a strong preference at all. Something about the T sound at the end of Violet/Charlotte just hits a slight snag for me as it heads into Henon, but not enough to be a dealbreaker.

Let’s have a poll just because we can, and because polls are fun: Twitter poll [Poll ended; see results below:]

I have a Swistle-crowd named Penelope Rosalie, so will suggest Penelope. We don’t call ours Penny, but a Penny and a Rosie are cute without any flower connection (although I think Rosie and Violet are perfectly fine too!)

I second Penelope. It has the same “ee” ending of Audrey and Rosalie and Emily in it’s full form and in nn form. Nicknames I have heard for Penelope are not only Penny but also Ellie and Nellie, and Nell if you don’t want the ie. Plus it has the history of the other two while avoiding the flower situation.

      Audrey, Rosalie and Penelope
      Audrey, Rosie and Ellie
      Audrey, Rosie and Nellie

      Penelope Violet.

I like Violet very much, but flower connection bothers me a little. I like Charlotte best with the sister names, As Swistle points out, it is fairly popular, but if that isn’t a deal breaker, it would be my choice.

Congratulations on your fourth daughter. I like Charlotte the best (Charlie! Lottie!) and then Sophie. I also wonder if you might like Margaret called Maggie. I also like Vivian or Felicity. But I don’t think there is anything wrong with liking top 10 names, especially right now: those are all truly great, classic names. Let us know what you decide.

Violet would be perfect! The flower connection doesn’t trip me up in the slightest.

I also love the suggestion of Beatrice/Beatrix nn Bea, or maybe Elizabeth nn Eliza or Betty or Bess.

Violet seems like a good fit if Rosalie goes by Rosie almost exclusively, I don’t think having two sisters with flower names is a dealbreaker. I also think your other choices of Charlotte and Sophie are great sisters for Audrey and Rosie. I work at a school and even though they are popular, I don’t see too many girls with those names. The other name that came to mind was Lucy. Ruby, Fiona and Claire also flow well to me.

I like Charlotte/Lottie best from your list. I like Penelope/Penny from the suggestions. Instead of Sophie, what do you think of Sylvie?

Personally, I like Sophie best, but that’s for my imaginary child ;) For your very real child you should go with Violet since you like it best. It works well with her big sisters’ names, even if one of them has a flowery nickname.
I would not name a child Amelia, though, since it’s so close to Emily. But some people do that too; my own FIL and his little brother have the exact same first names but FIL was prior to marriage so he’s got their mom’s maiden name and post-marriage born uncle has their dad’s. FIL shrugs over it; it’s been his reality for over 60 years.

I think using a name similar to Emily’s could be a nice tribute to her. Amelia could work for that. But if you want something that’s not similar to the other names, I think Charlotte would be great.
Sophie is too rhymey with Rosie
Violet and Rosie have the flower connection
Amelia, maybe too close to Emily.
    So that leaves Charlotte!
I also like the previous suggestion of Margaret, nickname Maggie.

Is Violetta too frilly for you? I love it as an alternative to Violet! Then you could call her Vi, Lettie, Violet, or Etta!

I do think Violet matches the sib set really well though. You could also consider a double name to lessen the flower association? It doesn’t bother me (especially because it’s mostly just a flower in Rosie’s nickname), but I do love Violet Mae, Violet Anne, Violet Jane, and Violet-Louise (okay maybe that one is a little on the long side, hehe, but Lettie Lou would be soooo cute!). Or Mary Violet?
