Baby Boy Anderson, Brother to Wyatt and Monroe

Hello!

My husband and I are expecting our third boy in a few months. We are struggling with names for this little one. Our first two boys were relatively easy to name, but we’ve found nothing that feels right with this little one.

Our surname is Anderson and we currently have a Wyatt James and a Monroe Alexander. Since we have an extremely common last name for our state, we’ve tried to choose names that are not as common, but still names people have heard before. We have not chosen a first or middle name, as we find middle names are easier when a first name is selected.

Names we’ve considered are Nolan, Selby, Ellis, and Felix.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Of the four you mention, I particularly like Nolan, Selby, and Ellis: I like the surnamey feeling with Wyatt and Monroe.

Selby is a name I haven’t encountered before, and I find I like to say it. I wonder if you would like Crosby.

I like the way Selby and Ellis bring in entirely new sounds. My one hesitation with Nolan is that it repeats some of the sounds from Monroe—not at dealbreaker levels, but just enough to catch my ear. I wonder if you’d like Calvin? It’s similar to Nolan but less similar to Monroe.

My one hesitation with Ellis is the way it flows into Anderson: it could sound like Ella Sanderson. I think for me that would be a dealbreaker.

Similar to Ellis are Davis and Harris and Hollis. They have a similar flow issue, but Dava and Hara and Holla are not as easily mistaken for first names.

Oh, maybe Keaton? Keaton Anderson. Wyatt, Monroe, and Keaton.

I agree with Swistle regarding Ellis: it kind of mashes up with your lat name.
Felix is a great name, but somehow (at least for me) it sounds like a brother of Edward, Henry or Julian (or something like that), rather than Wyatt and Monroe.
So, from your list, I like Nolan and Selby best. However, the first thing that comes to my mind after hearing “Selby” is Mark Selby, that snooker player (my dad is a huge snooker fan…). But it may not be an issue at all for you, especially since snooker doesn’t seem to be very popular in the US (or mybe I’m mistaken?).
Swistle’s suggestion of Keaton is perfect: it’s a surname name that sounds familar yet it’s not overly popular, and it works well with Wyatt and Monroe as well as your last name.
    Some other options could be:
Declan (similar to Nolan but does not have that long “o” sound)
    Noel
    Blake
    Reid
    Tobin
    Dashiell
    Flynn
    Grady
    Quentin
    Bentley

I just noticed that your older boys both have a traditional middle name (James and Alexander), and thus Felix would be great as a middle name! I especially like it with Declan: Declan Felix Anderson :)

Love Keaton and I am going to throw out the name I’ve been obsessing over by he last few days- saw it on a list of German traditional names and have been pondering the right family it would fit. Id say it’s yours!

    Burkhardt – or just Burke

I like Selby and Nolan from your list and Crosby from Swistle’s. I would definitely avoid names that run into Anderson like Ellis and Davis. I would also avoid another W or M name.

    A few suggestions:
    Grady
    Tobin
    Burke
    Tate
    Beau
    Everett
    Sayer
    Lyle
    Archer
    Seeley
    August
    Levi
    Boyd
    Spencer

Selby makes me think of the traditionally female name Shelby (my phone also want to autocorrect Selby to Shelby)… just something to keep in mind as I think other people’s minds may also go there being that Selby is a relatively uncommon name with few other associations/points of reference.
For your list, my favorite is Nolan, and I like Swistle’s suggestion of Calvin as well.
    Some more ideas…
Lachlan—Wyatt, Monroe, and Lachlan is PERFECT, in my opinion :)
    Leland (pn. LEE-land or LAY-land)
Malcolm (maybe too similar to Monroe)
    Lincoln
Lyle (I guess I just really like L names in this group)
Levi (okay last one I promise)
    Roscoe

Selby is my favorite from your list. Selby makes me think of Colby. I’d consider adding Graham.
I love Felix for the middle name!
