Baby Girl Archibald, Sister to Rainey, Rutledge, and Ryatt

Hello!

We’ve got baby #4 on the way – it’s a girl!! Any ideas for a name that will go with our others? Our last name is Archibald and kids names are as follows:

Rainey Alyn (f) (said Alan)
Rutledge Henry (m)
Ryatt Edward (m)

All first names are R’s and 2 syllables and we’re planning to stick with that pattern. Middle names are after family members. For #4 we’ve come up with Maylee as her middle name. Ideas we’ve had for first name: Rogen, Rebel, Reegan – but none have come shining out like the other kids. When we first heard their names we just KNEW. It needs to be unpopular and not rhyme with any of the ones we’ve got already (for example, many have suggested Remington, Remi for short. Which is way to close to Rainey for me. Also, Riley – too close to Ryatt and it’s too popular for my liking)

Thanks for your help!!

From your list, Reegan/Regan is my favorite: Rogen seems like a boy to me in this sibling set, and Rebel has a strong/immediate association for me with Rebel Wilson. Also, it’s a name that seems to set an expectation for the child’s temperament.

Because the names will all have two syllables and start with R, my inclination is to find a new vowel sound for right after the R. So far you have Ray, Ruh, and Rye, so I would be less inclined to suggest Raven, Rayla, Raelyn, etc.

Reason
Redding
Reelyn
Reeva/Riva/Reva
Renna
Rennan
Revan
Ria
Rielle
Rhianne/Reeanne (maybe too many sounds in common with Rainey)
Ridley
Rilla
Rio (though I think I would get tired of references to the Duran Duran song)
Roby
Roelle
Romy
Rory
Rowan
Rudy

If it didn’t have to be two syllables, I would suggest Rarity, Rafferty, and Romilly. (Also, Rarity is the name of a My Little Pony.)

Name update:

Hi! I’m sending our newest little loves info! Renner Maylee was born today and her name couldn’t be a more perfect fit. Thanks again for your help!

Hi! R names are a bit of tradition for females in my family, so I have a few suffusions: Rylah (though kinda close to Ryatt, Raquel (you could call her Rocky for short! Raquel is feisty like Rebel, but more feminine), Revellie I’m going to suggest even though it’s three syllables because I love it so much. I wonder if you’d like Rachel/Rachael because it’s familiar but not super common these days, especially for little ones. Also, Rema, Rena, or Rhea (my friend has a baby girl named Rhea, pronounced Ray-Uh, and it’s precious!) Rhea Maylee is ADORABLE…ADORABLE.

I love Reegan from your list and would probably end up calling her Ree; It’s one of the names on my own list. I do think Rogen sounds like a boy, and Rebel would probably project a loud and wild personality on what could be a more laid-back, soft-spoken kid. Best of luck!

I have always pronunced Rhea with a long e sound Rhee-uh like Rhea Pearlman. That would also give you the different starting sound since you already have Ray.

Rogen skews male for me because of A) Seth Rogen, and B) Rogaine, the hair-growing product for men.

I’m with Swistle on Rebel — too many expectations, too much of a Rebel Wilson association. Also I have kind of a hard time picturing Dr. Rebel Archibald or the Honorable Judge Rebel Archibald.

I like Rhea (such a fun bird!), Rio (I’m not familiar with the song), and Romy.

Don’t do Rebel, for all the aforementioned reasons, but also it doesn’t mesh with your other kids’ names.

Rowan is a strong win for me. Different sound, uncommon but not weird, and ties nicely to your other names. Rowan Maylee is a great moniker…love it.

I like Swistle’s idea of using a new vowel sound. My favorite out of Swistle’s list is Rowan, but to me that says “boy.” Also like Reeva/Reva/Riva, Ria/Rhia.

Other thoughts: Robin/Robyn, Retta, River, Ruby. And I’ll throw it out there since it’s one of my favorite girls names & fits your criteria, even though I’m not sure it matches your naming style: the Irish Roisin (ro-SHEEN)

I love Rhea Maylee for you, prounounced Rhee-uh. Rory is also lovely, though not quite right with your middle name choice, maybe? Too similar end sounds?

I wonder how you’d feel about Rigby? It’s kind of cool/edgy with the connection to the Beatles song? Might be too edgy, I dunno!

Rigby Maylee, Rainey, Rutledge, Ryatt and Rigby

A little less edgy, but lovely would be Rosa Maylee, Rainey, Rutledge, Ryatt and Rosa

I expect Rosa isn’t your style but I love Rosa Maylee.

    You may want to consider:

    Risa Maylee
    Rhona Maylee
    Reba Maylee
    Runa Maylee

I had a client named Revel and I’ve loved it ever since. I think it would go perfectly with your family names!

Revel takes the name to a much more positive meaning, while leaving a very similar sound. This is a great idea! Plus Revi is a great nn

My step-brother and his wife just named there little girl Ramsey. I know that doesn’t go well with the middle name but maybe you’ll reconsider the middle name once you find your shining first name.

By the way their little boy is Rowen.

Roma is a beautiful word, but also a race of people. It is the Italian name for Rome, yes, but also the race of the Romany people. Sort of like choosing the name Irish or Egyptian. Not impossible, but pretty weird.

I’d like to chime in on loving Rhea Maylee, another name that came to mind was Ruka ( Roo-ka) nn Roo, I know a little girl with this name and love it

Love some of the suggestions here! My faves for you: Rhea, Reagan, Rowan, Romy, Rory, Rumer, Remy, Rianne (my preferred spelling rather than Rhianne/Rhiann), Ria, River, Rinelle, Ripley, Roxanne/Roxie.

Actually on second thought I probably would avoid any first name ending in “-ie” or “-ey” because it might sound a bit sing-songy with Maylee as the middle name. I think I love Rhea, Rowan and Rianne the best with Maylee.

I’m the momma to the R kids this post is about. Thank you, all, for the suggestions! There are some great ones in this post and I’m excited to share with my husband. I was feeling quite tethered with my few choices and you have added so many to my list! I can’t thank y’all enough and will definitely let you know what we decide!

I’ll add to the list, I came up with Rielle last night.

I know of a Rissa (rhymes with kiss-ah) and that seems like it could fit with the sibling names. Other ideas are Renna, Rory, River, Rhona

Ooooooo- vites here for Reva or Revel (love the backstory/word play for baby #4 who is gonna have to keep up with the sibs!)

Maybe Redmond? Rilla? (As in Marilla/AOGG, not Gorilla- but I see the risk there) Rina?

Rimmel/ Rimmelle might work for you.
    Relic is a possibility, too.
Rhetta is a lovely option. Rhetta Maylee.
Rainey, Rutledge, Riley, and Rhetta. Nice!

    Best wishes!

Rissa and Roxy are my favorites. I like Ramsey too. If you consider more than two syllables, then Ramona.

Ramsey/Ramsay is not having a great moment right now due to Game of Thrones. If you love the name though and have no idea what I’m talking about, don’t investigate!

I like Romy, Ridley, River and Rhea/Ria.

I have to say I have loved the name Rilla/Marilla since reading the entire Anne of Green Gables series as a child! When I saw that on Swistle’s list, my heart gave a little happy leap!

Yes! I loved (still love) the AoGG series. Rilla Blythe has her own book, of course, the last in the series: Rilla of Ingleside. She’s such a likable character – saves a war orphan (WWI), among other things. I think it would be great fun to be a child and have that literary connection for your name. :) Plus it’s so lovely and feminine sounding. Rilla Maylee is beautiful. I vote Rilla, Rilla, Rilla! :)

    What about Revere or Reverie?

I also think Rebel should be out, but bevause it reimforces the wordiness of Ryatt (Riot).

    Other thoughts:

    Roya– means “dream” in Persian
    Rivka
    Runa
    Rafaelle
    Roxanne
    Raquel
    Rika
    Royce

    Good luck!! Please update us!

Love Reva. Before I noticed it on Swistle’s list (and reinforced in the comments) I was going to suggest it myself. Vera is one of my favourite names and Reva contains the same sounds.

I love Rowan, what about Rosa or Rosie? Rilla is terrific too, and even is the title character of a book!

    I like:
Reeva the best with the other siblings. Next would be Rhea or Rowan.

If it didn’t have to be two syllables – Rafaelle. Oh my I love this name. And Raffie, such a cute and spunky nn. Or Fae or Elle if she wanted something simpler for later in life.

I personally love Roelle but I’m not too sure if it’s too feminine, whimsical for the other sib set.

    Good luck!

    Loving Reeva too!

    What about Renner/Renna?

    Rainey, Rutledge, Ryatt and Renna.

    Radha or Rhoda?

    Good luck!

I knew a girl named Ripley growing up and her name sticks out to me because my mom used to love to pronounce it with a lot of enthusiasm! I think this name would be a great option for your family. Also like Rory, Rhea (I immediately think it would be pronounced Ray-uh, though), and Rita.

Rozette (not to be confused with Roxette because Pretty Woman)
Another vote for Racquel / Raquel

I love the suggestions of River, Roxanne (Roxy) and Rowen (prefer the -wen for a girl).
Would you use Rhiannon? I have always loved that name because I adore Stevie Nicks. I also really love Ramona, though neither have 2 syllables.

    Other R names:
    Ruby Maylee
    Ryanne Maylee
    Rosemund Maylee
    Robyn Maylee
    Renee Maylee
Reba Maylee (Reba means 4th born!)

I’m a nerd so I love “Rainey” reminds me of “Rainer” which makes me think if Rilke, one of my favorite poets. Could have Rilla or Rilley/Rillie as a nickname :)
