Boy/Girl Twin Babies Rogers-without-the-R

Hi Swistle

I am currently pregnant due in March. This is my husband and I’s first child and we have come to find out we are expecting twins! When we found out we decided that we wanted to know the gender of the babies so we could decide on names before they come. Looks like we are having a boy and a girl!

I am writing because I would love to hear some of your opinions on good combinations or any other further suggestions on names we like so far.

Girl names we like:
Emery
Arden
Marley
Sadie
Finley

Boy names we like:
Harrison/Harry
Liam
Lucas
Calvin
Wilson

Our last name is Rogers without the R. We would like middle names to be honor names so the ones we are considering are
Girl: May, Rebecca, Nicole
Boy: William, Charles, Clinton, James

I look forward to hearing your suggestions

Thanks

I’m not sure which R is missing from Rogers. I’ve sent an email, and I’ll update when I know. [Update: it’s the first R that’s missing.] In the meantime, I love pairing up names. Such a fun game. Here are some combinations I might make:

Emery and Wilson
Arden and Lucas
Marley and Harrison
Sadie and Liam
Sadie and Calvin
Finley and Liam
Finley and Calvin

I like it when twin names have something in common, even if it’s a very small something. I like that Sadie and Liam are both nickname names. I like that Finley and Liam share a “lee” sound. I like that Finley and Calvin are both six-letter, two-syllable names with three-letter, one-syllable nicknames, and that they share an “in” sound. I like the musical theme of Marley and Harrison, but maybe it’s too much. I like that Arden and Lucas both have five letters. It’s not that I’d sacrifice a name I liked better in order to force a coordination—but I do like when it works out that way.

More girl names to consider:

Brinley
Delaney
Ellery
Ellison
Emlyn
Everly
Garnet
Holland
Hollis
Marlowe
Quincy

More boy names to consider:

Anderson
Davis
Davison
Elliot
Emmett
Everett
Grant
Lawson
Marcus
Nolan
Thompson
Truman
Wesley

Choosing two names at once can be overwhelming. One of the techniques that helped me the most when I was naming twins was to pretend I was NOT having twins, and that they were born one at a time. Our girl baby was Baby A, so I would pretend that I was pregnant with only one baby, a girl, and I would try to figure out what we would name her. Once I had that name in mind, I would pretend that it was some years later and now I was pregnant again, with a boy; what will we name HIM?

I may be in the minority, but I think when you are having a boy and a girl, it’s important to give the kids names that highlights their gender. I know some of the names on the list are definitely skewed more feminine, but I’d pick the most feminine names of the bunch. Especially if you plan on having more kids.

Therefore I’d say Sadie and Liam are my favorites from your list, and from Swistle’s picks, I’d say Delanie, Ellery (Elle or Ellie as a nn) or Brinley (though, I love the name, I hate the way it looks–BrynnLeigh, Brinley, Brynlee, it’s never right!). Everly is pretty but super popular right now. I also like Swistle’s Grant. Delanie and Grant, aka Della and Grant, would be adorable.

I agree that using a name more gender specific for the baby girl would make it clearer that the twins are girl-boy, not two boys. From your favorites I prefer Sadie and Harrison/Harry or Sadie and Liam.

I also agree, I would like a more definite girls name especially in a twin set. For me Marley and Finley are too unisex or even sound more masculine to me and for some reason Arden sounds masculine to me too.

      I like Sadie and Liam
      Or Sadie and Harry

To me Sadie and Harry have such a gorgeous old fashioned charm to them and seem to fit so well together.

If you like Sadie I wonder if you would like Maisy or Daisy?

Maisy and Liam would work well as they would share Mai / iam letters in reverse at the begining and end of their names.

Daisy and Harry and Maisy and Harry also great combos.

I’m an identical twin but we are named differently and have nothing in common regarding our names. Being a twin is incredible enough (I’m blessed that me and my sister are extremely close) that I don’t think the names need to match in any sort of way. My favorite boy combo off your list is Wilson James (Rogers). I really like the name Wilson as a first name and it’s not yet popular! My favorite girl name from your list is Sadie May (Rogers). Wilson and Sadie! I think these names are the ones that will stand through the test of time as they work well as infant, child, young adult and adult names! Congrats on your twins!

I also feel the gender-specific names would serve them well! When I saw Sadie and May on your list, I swooned. I so want to push you to use Sadie May! :-)

With it, I love Calvin William. Sadie and Cal!

So I matched the boy and girl names and then went back and looked at Swistle’s list and found they were ALL duplicates of hers. So for added value, I put in middles.

    Emery Nicole & Wilson Charles
    Arden Rebecca & Lucas Clinton
    Marley May & Harrison James
    Finley Nicole & Calvin William

I love Finley and Calvin (Fin and Cal)! I vote for Finley Nicole or Finley May and Calvin James. Congrats and please update us once they’re here!

With the exception of Sadie and Liam and Sadie and Calvin, I would assume all of those pairs of names belonged to two boys. Sadie and Calvin is my favorite. I like Calvin Charles and Sadie Rebecca.

I agree that naming them as if they weren’t twins is a good idea. Pick a name for the girl, then pick one for the boy & then decide if they will work together. Personally, I prefer names for multiples to not be too theme-y. I will also disagree with Swistle about pairing something like Finley & Liam, but mostly because I am easily tongue tied. :-)

I’ll add that in a boy/girl set, I would either try for 2 unisex names, or I would intentionally go for obviously girl + obviously boy. With something like Finley, I think odds are good many people will assume b/b twins.

From your girl list, my favorites are Marley & Sadie (though I’d probably do Sarah w/ Sadie as the nickname). From your boy list, my favorites are probably Liam & Harrison/Harry. I think something like Sarah/Sadie & Harrison/Harry would be nice. Both names are gender specific & traditional, and both have short/cute nicknames so they coordinate without being “matchy.”

I also am one that prefers gender specific names vs. unisex names, but that’s just me.

On viewing your list I really like Sadie and Wilson. Both are known names but aren’t super common. Sadie is very much a girl name, seems to have a bit of spunk to it. Wilson is very much a boy name, and also has a neat feel to it! I think using both these names, you aren’t putting your naming style into one particular trend/genre so if you have more children you haven’t cornered yourself into one particular style.

I also really like Sadie and Harrison.

Or from Swistle’s list I LOVE Davis. Sadie and Davis. Actually, this might be my ultimate favourite. Five letters in both names, almost the exact same letters (S, A, D, I are all the same) YET they give such different sounds that you don’t notice they are almost identical in formation. WOW… I seriously love this combination. I would actually just stop here.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

While I like unisex names for girls, I do agree with the others that in the case of b/g twins, I would select a more obvious girl name. I have g/g twins, and trust me, you will get a LOT of attention when you are out & about with them, especially when they are babies. Many, many strangers will engage you about them, and ask their names. Personally, I would not want to have to constantly answer the question, “Is Finley a boy or a girl?”. It’s not like it’s any of their business, or that it matters in the big scheme of things, but I think it’s good to think about how much that will bother you.

From your list, I like Arden and Sadie the best. To me, Arden trends more towards girl than unisex, but maybe I’m wrong? I like May/Mae as a first name too. I love all the names on your boy list.

    Good luck!

Sadie and Lucas is my favorite combo. There’s some overlap in the letters, but it isn’t singsongy.

    Congratulations!

Sadie is sooo cute but I would you use it as a nickname for Sarah.

I really like Sarah and Lucas nn Sadie and Luke. Sarah May and Lucas James!

Sadie always reminds me of Josie, which is cute too! Josephine and Harrison nn Josie and Harry. Josephine May and Harrison James?

Ohhh…and Rosie! Rosamund/Rosalie and Harrison nn Rosie and Harry.

Rosalie and Lucas nn Rosie and Luke. Love!

Marley and Calvin (love!) are my favorites from your list. I also like Marley and Liam together!

    Good luck!!!!

Sadie Mae did jump out for me as well. I don’t Liam with it though as Liam is so popular right now. I would also avoid Wilson though I like it just because I know who many little Willl(s) today. Calvin James would be a great choice. Sadie Mae and Calvin james.

Marley is the other name on your girls list that I really like (and seems feminine enough for people not to think you have twin boys). Marley Nicole and Lucas William are great options.

I agree with others on clear gender B/g names.
    My pair:
    Ellery / Calvin
6 letters, strong L sounds, different initials and syllables, good nicknames, roll with last name. I like because some match without too much.

Congratulations! Harrison (this was the name that got away for me. I so wanted my son to be Harrison.) and Finley sound great together. That combo is my favorite I think. Second is Liam and Sadie.

    Arden & Calvin
    Marley & Wilson
    Sadie & Harrison

These are my favorite names on your lists. As a twin, I agree that the names don’t have to coordinate in any way. Just give them both names you love that aren’t too easy to confuse with each other. A few more names that you might like:
    Lane/Lainey (Similar to Delaney)
    Greer
    Maren
    Natalie

    Clayton
    Roman
    Martin
    Ethan
    Beckett

I like Arden and Wilson or Arden and Calvin.
Arden May and Wilson James. Or do you like Eden? Then they could both have nicknames: Edie and Will.

Eden nn Edie is a great suggestion!

Eden Rebecca is lovely! Eden and Lucas. Edie and Luke! I think I prefer just Luke over Lucas. Eden Rebecca and Luke William perhaps!

I like Eden Rebecca and Calvin James together too. Edie and Cal!

If you like Emery, what about Emerald? Emerald Nicole nn Emmy! Emmy and Luke?

    From your list I like
Emery Rebecca & Lucas James. Or
    Sadie May and Lucas James

I agree that you should try to choose a name that will show your twins are boy and girl and not two boys.

Also like two longer names that can have cute nick names
    Emmeline Rebecca & Harrison James
    Emmy & Harry

Just noting that while I love the look of “Sadie May,” it does remind me of Sallie Mae. Maybe I’m weird though and no one else thinks of that! Also not a deal-breaker, but something I would want to consider perhaps?
