Baby Twin Boys Harper, Brothers to Jack

Jh writes:

I am expecting fraternal twin boys. We have a three year old son named Jack. My husband and I like english names. Our short list is:

Thomas (Tom)
William (Billy or Will)
Charles (we only have this name chosen for the nickname Charlie, we both don’t really like Charles)
Henry

names we can’t use:
Harry

Our last name begins with H and sounds like Harper.

I love the name Henry but I’m unsure how I feel about alliteration ie. Henry Harper.

Any further suggestions would be welcome.

Since you have your doubts about both Henry and Charles, I vote for Thomas and William. They’re great together, great with your first son’s name, great with your surname, and they have compatible nicknamingness: Thomas/William, Tom/Will.

Another possibility to add to the list is Edward, though I wouldn’t use it with William because of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. I like the way it sounds with your surname. Edmund would be a good option, too. Or Simon? Simon and Edmund Harper.

I usually don’t go for alliteration in names, but I really really like the sound of Henry Harper. More than I would have expected even.

I like the suggestion of Simon. You might also like David, if you want something with a classic sound and a good nickname. I was going to suggest, Benjamin (nn Ben), but Ben Harper’s a singer, and well that seems a little too tributey.

I think you really can’t go wrong with any on your list though.

    Best wishes!

I really like the suggestion of Simon, but also like Thomas and William from the list. You could also consider Gordon, Andrew and Stuart.

I like all of the names on your list and agree that Thomas (Tommy/Tom) and William (Will) might be the best choices for you.

Or since you like Billy, how about William (Billy) and Edward (Teddy)? So sweet on little boys, with the options of Bill and Ted when they’re older.

    Other suggestions:
    Robert – Robbie or Bobby
    Andrew
    David

The twins in my family are James and Andrew.

    Best wishes!

From you list I like Charlie and Will. I’m married to a Charles and he is known as Charlie. Even in his high profile job. On paper, of course it it always Charles.

I also love these names for you: Liam, Samuel, Oliver, Benjamin, Lucas (nnLuke), and Owen.
    Jack, Sam and Owen.
    Jack, Charlie and Ben
    Jack, Ben and Charlie
    Jack, Oliver and Lucas

These are my fav for you. Good luck!

I suggest James, David, Charlie, Luke, Benjamin, Theodore (Teddy), Michael, George…I like Thomas Harper, as well as the alliteration of Henry Harper, for what it’s worth. Best of luck!

If you can’t use Harry, I feel compelled to point out that Harry is used as a nickname for Henry (Prince Harry’s real name is Henry.) This combined with your concerns about alliteration may be enough to eliminate the name.

Also, I don’t know if this will bother you, but Charlie Harper immediately calls to mind the character from Two and a Half Men.

So, I have to agree with Swistle that William and Thomas (Will and Tom) is the best combination from your shortlist.

I also really like Kit’s recommendation of Andrew for you. Jack, Tom and Andy is a great sibling set.

Just a thought, but because of the popularity of Thomas the Tank Engine & friends with little boys,
if you choose Thomas for one twin, you may want to avoid the names of the other engines for the other twin. Percy, Gordon, Henry, James, Edward, Toby are the classic ones but there are heaps of new ones too.

I think that Thomas and William is the best pairing as well (Jack, Tom and Will, LOVE), and I especially like Thomas since it means twin.
    Other possibilities: Alexander, Graham, Nicholas.
    Good luck!

Thomas and William are a great combo.

    Other options:

    Simon and Victor

    Theodore and James

    Andrew and Peter

You can’t go wrong with such good taste, though. Best wishes to you and your growing family!
