My husband and I are expecting a baby soon – due date is April 7, but I’ll probably be induced at 39 weeks, so two weeks, tops. We have a son named Sebastian. We have lots of great boy name ideas, but we’re really struggling with girl names. Last name starts with a C and sounds like Sha-meer. Current frontrunners are:
Scarlett (Probably my favorite, my husband goes back and forth – do you think this is going to get very popular? That’s my only concern.)
CamillaOther names that we like but maybe don’t love are:
Josephine
Juliette
Charlotte
ClaraI like Noelle a lot and my husband likes Annabel a lot, but the feelings are not mutual. We both like Nora a lot but can’t use it. I want the name to be a “real” name, no funny spellings, no surname or place names, etc. Do you have any other ideas? I feel like I should have a better list at this point, and my husband and I seem to have stalled out on discussions, so time for a neutral third party! Hopefully you can help!
The graph for Scarlett’s rising popularity looks scary:
Nevertheless, if you’re asking my opinion, which you are, I don’t think it’s going to get Very Popular. I think it’s going to stop rising soon. My GUESS is that it will stay in a comfortable position: common enough so people won’t be shocked or say “WHAT’S her name??”—but always a little unusual, and never a Top 10.
I’d put my vote with Camilla, though. I think that is such a pretty name, and so underused. Corinna would be pretty, too, or Corinne. I also like Camille, which makes me think of Simone and Celeste. Camilla also makes me think of Romilly.
Oh, I too love Noelle and Annabel! Other possibilities: Abrielle, Arabella, Giselle, Elodie, Eloise, Ellery, Elowyn.
I also like Elise: Elise Shameer, Sebastian and Elise.
Nora makes me think of Rory, Nina, Maura, Laura, Willa—and of Cora, which is similar to the Clara you like.
Instead of Scarlett and Charlotte, would you like Violet? Violet Shameer, Sebastian and Violet.
If you like Anabelle, what about Mirabelle. It is my younger daugther’s middle name and we rarely hear it, but it sounds ‘familiar’.
Also, Scarlett and Charlotte, make me think of Violet (I have a Violet!) and that reminds me of other names we couldn’t pair with Violet due to similar-soundings, such as Colette and Cosette.
I like that Nora + Clara = Cora equation. And I like Violet and Arabella, too, but I think my vote is for Camilla.
LOVE Scarlett. I think you should use it.
Also, I’m wondering how you pronounce Romilly? Thanks.
What about Aurora nn Rory?
Camille is cute, and nn’s like Milla or Millie are so sweet.
First, please let me compliment you on having a ready list of boys’ names. I think those are so much harder!
As for the names on your list, you have some great ones. Sebastian and Scarlett is a cute pairing. Sebastian and Camilla sounds very cool, European, and dignified. I’m also a huge fan of both Noelle and Annabel, and both have a nice rhythm when paired with Sebastian. In fact, I love all these names so much, I don’t want to suggest any others. Do let us know what you pick!
I love the name Scarlett so much. When I read in on your list my heart did a little dance! Are you someone who would be bothered by having two children with names beginning with the same letter, though? If you have more children, will you feel pressure to give Baby #3 another ‘S’ name? Something to keep in mind!
Ordinarily I love the name Camilla, but when paired with your surname it seems… off? Camilla Shameer. I keep wanting to call her Camilla Shameer-a. The cadence doesn’t sit well with me.
Swistle’s suggestion of Cora, funnily enough, doesn’t give me the cadence problem. In fact, I think Cora Shameer has a very lovely, natural flow. And it is SO wonderful with Sebastian! This is my top pick for you.
Naomi comes to mind after looking at your list.
Libby- I THINK Romilly is pronounced RO-mill-ee. Or at least, a previous family who had a daughter named Romilly said they pronounce it that way.
I love Noelle and Josephine from your list.
Others that come to mind – Caroline, Penelope, Colette, Natalie.
Swistle! Thank you! You posted my question! I am SO huge and SO excited to just-have-a-baby-already that this is the perfect distraction from the fact that I remain huge and babyless. I love all the suggestions, Violet is great, although I don’t know if I could get my husband on board. I’ll keep you all posted!
I find Scarlett and Charlotte hard to say with Shameer. But I love the names. Camilla is my run away favorite and I’m hesitant to suggest others since I love it so. I don’t get a cadence problem from Camilla Shameer. I like Simone a lot too, but I don’t know if you’re willing to go for more “s” names down the line.
But since it’s my word verification, I recommend Grace. Good luck!
Hi- i almost don’t want to share my girls name ha ha as we’re due on June 7th, but are having a baby brother for our son Sebastian. It’s Sienna. Think it goes really well (sucker for alliteration) and I think it oozes class and it’s different but familiar. Just my opinion I’m sure many will agree and ofcourse a lot of people will think of Sienna Miller but there’s worse people to piccture and I know of no other Siennas at all!! Good luck let us know what you choose :-) x
Simone, mum to Sebastian 13 months, and baby bump due June 7th. PS what are your boy names??!!!
