I dreamed last night that I had a baby boy, and that I’d neglected to choose a name (or rather, we’d chosen the name “Orendo,” and after the baby was born I thought “???”). I thought of using Oliver, but he didn’t seem like an Oliver. Then I thought, “This is going to be SO FUN to post on the baby name blog!!” (And it WOULD have been, too!) The name I was considering when the dream ended was Benjamin—a name not on my list of favorites, but not on my list of “No,” either.
Awhile back I dreamed I had twin boys and named them Simon and Michael: Simon is definitely on my list, and Michael has been on my middle-name list.
Have you ever had a dream about naming a baby?
LOL, yes! Late in my second pregnancy, I had the strangest dream. The ultrasound – and my gut instincts – were wrong. Our daughter was actually a son. And somehow, when I wasn’t paying attention, my husband chose the name Ethan Koolio.
Happily, she’s a she!
Actually, no.
BUT, something similar almost happened to me! When I was pregnant with my third, my water broke at 23 weeks. The doctors kept me in the hospital until I delivered @ 29 wks, but somewhere around 26 weeks it occurred to me that we had nothing like a list of names for EITHER gender and that if I was going to have a baby I was going to need a NAME! Talk about being unprepared for the birth of your own child! :)
Before I was pregnant with Grace, I dreamed twice about giving birth to a baby boy. The first one was named Charlie, the second one Tommy. In one of the dreams we were also considering Andy, and in the other we were choosing between Charlie and Tommy for the name. Obviously I really like those names, which is funny because none of them made it to the list when I was actually pregnant (though Tommy was only off because my SIL used it).
YES! And we used it (kinda).
Years before we were trying to conceive, I dreamt I was heavily pregnant and the DH walked into kitchen and announced that he had the perfect girl name – Adie (rhymes with Sadie). Adie does appear in some baby books, sometimes listed as a diminutive for a female variant of Adam, though not most baby books.
When I was pregnant with my first, I had come to love the name because of the dream and I reminded my husband of it. He didn’t hate it but he didn’t want to use it either. I couldn’t even sell him on Sadie either, which I also really like on its own or as a nickname for Sarah but Sarah sounds terrible with our last name.
So DH didn’t like Adie but he said he did like Adam and Ada or Ava. I immediately knew that Adam was the name.
Our first child is Adam.
I had a dream where I had my second baby girl. The first I knew in my dream was named Julia Margaret (a name I’ve loved). The second, in the dream, I couldn’t think of a name ane ended up coming home from the hospital with a baby named “baby girl”. Classy, right?
I’m pregnant with #4 and my most recent crazy preggo dream was that I had a sono and learned I was having nine babies…nonuplets! (I had to look it up.)
In my dream, I squealed and said, “I get to name them ALL!” It was a name lovers dream come true!
Chrys
P.S. Kelly, I used to teach public school and, honest to goodness, I once had a student named Baby Boy (first and middle names). I couldn’t bear to just call him “Baby” so I always called him “Baby Boy”. Yes, very classy.
When pregnant with my second son, I dreamed he was a girl and we named her Tina Louise. My oldest son’s name is Ike, but having “Ike and Tina” didn’t faze me in the dream.
Sometime in the past year or so I dreamed that we had a girl and named her Ezra.
Eight weeks pregnant with my third now. Perhaps my subconscious will be more helpful this time.
When i was pregnant with my second child, I had a dream that she was a girl and we couldn’t decide on a name, so we named her the same thing as our older daughter, like George Forman. Luckily we did end up coming up with a different name for her by the time she was born.
I had a dream once that I had twin boys too, and we named them Rafael and Gabriel. We’ve always thought we’d have girls, but my partner said if we did have boys those are exactly the names she’d choose!
@Sarcy, was your dream perchance around the time of this post?
@Karen L, no, but good eye! I remember that post, but my dream was sometime in the hazy past before that. When I’m awake, I can’t imagine naming a girl of mine Ezra.
The night before I was born, my mom dreamed that they named me Pebbles. Like from the Flintstones. And I then I was born with red hair! Luckily, she did not take this as any kind of omen.
I was actually named after a baby name dream my mother had when she was pregnant with me. In her dream she was chasing a little girl and calling my name over and over. Sh eactually used this to overrule my dad’s choice of names.
I’m 5 months pregnant with our 2nd and naming her has been h-e-double hockey sticks. We fight- I cry -its awful- we only love our DD’s names, so we might go with that again (haha?…no)
Before i knew that i was pregnant my 2 year old woke up in the middle of the night and said, “when is my litle sister maci coming?!” and then went back to sleep. 4 or 5 weeks later i took a pregnancy test ++. Now, 22 weeks later, she felt her kick and said “Hey Maci!” my husband vetoed the name when i told him about it before we knew we were pregnant so we have not talked about it since. Sooo…last night i dreamt that she was born. Maci CatherineLee. Catherine after my greatgram & mom and Lee is DH’s middle name.
I love it. Now I need to convince him that it was Maci all along.
@marilyn c. cole I have never heard that from another person. I was truly almost named Pebbles (hippy parents) but thankfully the grandparents had a fit.
I dreamt I had two boys, about 9 and 4 years old named Mickey and Tommy. I don’t like either of those diminutives, but Michael and Thomas are both on our list of good family names.
Ok so I can’t be the only one creeping through the Swistle archives, and I can’t help but respond because shortly after my daughter was born 3 years ago, I dreamt I was pregnant with a boy and I was determined to name him Cordoba Sharp in honor of a Spanish cheese (note: no such cheese exists and this must just be my subconscious revealing how very much I love cheese).
Fast forward 3 years, my husband and I are about to start trying for baby #2, and my husband keeps joking-but-not-entirely-joking we must use the “prophesized” name for baby #2.
