The 2009 baby name data is up!!! Obviously this is a very exciting day for all of us.
Noah is in the top 10! So is Jayden! So is Chloe! So is Mia!
Isabella is #1, kicking Emily to #6 and Emma to #2! And I know an 8-year-old Isabella whose parents named her that to be “unique,” because they’d never heard the name on anyone before! That is FAST TRAVELING, my friend!
There’s a new changes in popularity chart! Cullen, Emmett, Jasper, Zayden, Braylen, Kason: UP! Maliyah, Aliyah, Aaliyah, Ayla, Aniyah, Mya, Maya, Malia, Amiyah, Jaliyah, Mila, Isla, Lyla, Lilah, Lila, Laila, Nyla: UP! Adelyn and Adalyn: UP! Mis Alternate spellings such as Isiah and Issac: DOWN! Celebrity names Kimora and Miley and Danica: DOWN! Mikayla and Makenzie and Mckenna: DOWN! Caiden and Aidan and Hayden and Braden: DOWN!
So excited! I looked just a few days ago and it wasn’t up yet!
YES!!! Finally! So excited! Thanks for the tip, Swistle!
Interesting moves!! I have a nephew Noah (born in 2001) and the only Chloe and Mia I know are dogs LOL
I figured the Twilight names would start to be more common since it’s mostly a chick thing, this chick included.
I love that name change chart. Thanks for pointing it out!
I have a son Noah, born in 2001, too. A little surprised at how much it’s moved up the chart since then. I knew it was in the 20s/30s when he was born.
Two other top boy names I considered during my second pregnancy (Joshua & William). I must not be very original, at least when it comes to boys.
Just wanted to point it out in case other people don’t pick up on it…the following names are main characters in the Twilight series: Isabella, Jacob, Emmett and Jasper and the last name of the family is Cullen.
Hmmm…there seems to be a trend here.
WOOT!
I must say – I;m pretty happy with the list. I’m happy to see that Madison fell, even if it was just a little. Mia is a nice addition.
My sons name is slowly creeping up, though, which makes me sad. (Caleb)
I’m so incredibly glad to see some of those go down in popularity…. Caiden! Mikayla! Makenzie! Aidan!! Even Madison dropped a wee little bit! Woot!
However… can we not find somewhere better then tv and movies to get our popular names from? I mean, I’m totally addicted to Twilight AND Private Practice, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna name my kid Addison/Cullen/Emmett/Jasper, etc….
All of my favorite sort of antique charm names (and names favored on this site alot) moved up quite a bit. Maybe Swistle and her correspondents are influencing the rankings?
And Isla wasn’t even in the top 1000 3 or 4 years ago. But sometimes names that go up that quickly also decline quickly.
I’m not surprised to see Isla at the top of the list. I am surprised Adelaide isn’t at the top of the Popularity change list. I see Adelaide all the time on name sites.
Slade, Rance, Marshall, or some great family maiden name a lady left off once married!
