Baby Girl Mazda

Rachel writes:

My name is Rachel, my husband and I are expecing our 2nd daughter April Fools Day (or hopefully a little sooner).
Our first born daughter is named Cailey Elizabeth and our last name rhymes with Mazda. We have a couple names that we like so far but nothing is jumping out at us like the name Cailey did.

Here is our short list:
Alexis
Taylor (though my husband thinks this will be too popular and he views it as a boys name)
McKenzie
Hazel
Brooke
Morgan

As said before nothing is really jumping out at us yet. We don’t want a popular name and my husband would love an older name but we can’t agree on any.

We would love to use Riley, Sydney, or Maddison but all have been used in one of our families.

I really look forward to hearing your opinions. Thank you for your time!

Here are some possibilities:

Addison
Adelyn
Ashby
Avery
Braelyn
Brooklyn
Darcy
Hadley
Haven
Juniper
Kennedy
Kerrigan
Laney
Makenna
Madigan
Marissa
Mia
Natalie
Peyton
Quinn
Shelby

I love Morgan. I have one, myself. Morgan Kate. I think you have a great list of names. I’ll add a few more…

    Reagan (one of mine again.)
    Alexa
    Whitney
    Quincy
    Emery
    Paige

    Good Luck!

    Hello!

From your list I lean towards: Alexis (fairly common I believe)
    Mackenzie
    Morgan

    From Swistle’s list I prefer:
    Adelyn
    Braelyn
Hadley (Hadley and Cailey too similar?)
    Makenna

If we’d had a girl she would have been Kiana – not that common, not wierd and with a bit of a traditional sound with the -anna. I also loved the name Evany but my husband did not!

Names are such a matter of personal taste – we had a hard time deciding on a girls name for our recently born baby(a boy)!

    Good luck!

    Makenna

    From your list:
    Brooke

    Some other picks:
    Ellie
    Isla
    Harper
    Mya
    Lily
    Sadie

I think Hadley is really cute, but it is similar to Cailey.

    What about…
    Cambria

    Cailey and Cambria.

That is a cute sib set. Cambria has a lot of nickname potential if you are heading that direction. Cam, Bri, Cami.

From your list I like Hazel, and from Swistle I vote Peyton since that’s exactly what came to mind when I saw your list. I like Brooke as a middle name for both these names, if you haven’t picked out one.

From your list I like Taylor, Hazel, Brooke & Morgan, but I feel like Hazel doesn’t go as well with Cailey as the others. From Swistle’s suggestions I like Juniper, Kennedy, Madigan, Mia & Quinn. My suggestions: Chloe, Diana, Jasmine & Sophia. Good luck!

Except for Hazel, most of the names you mention are a tidge tom-boyish, especially the surname-names, though not all are “unisex.” Since you like Taylor, maybe you’d like Tatum, which your husband may recognise as “more” of a girl’s name than Taylor. In fact, another naming site had a post about alternatives to Tatum. A lot of the suggestions were on your list or similar to them. A few other ideas: Rory (kinda like Riley) Blythe (kinda like Brooke).

You could always go with April because of her due date. I’m partial to month names myself since my daughter is June (not born in June, though– it’s a family name).

Cailey is one of my favorite girls’ names. My other favorites are Quincy, Layla, Grace, and Isla (pronounced Iyla– It’s a popular Scottish name)

    McKinley!

It’s my (20 year old) sister in law’s name and I think its fabulous and much prettier than McKenzie.
