I was looking through my 2004-2005 baby name lists for a post I was writing on my main blog about choosing the twins’ names, and I was surprised by some of the names that made my list:
Iliana Jenica Laken Perrin
Abbott Cullen Dutch Joren
Not because I dislike the names, but because they’re not my usual style and I don’t even remember considering them. Do you have names you’re surprised you considered?
Not surprised, so much, but I look at my older lists and I slowly drop names and add new ones. The middle ones stay the same, until they become the old ones and get dropped.
I still like most of the names that never made it with our first one, but most of these did *not* make it on to the list for our second one. And I can’t quite explain why. Baby names that never made the cut
I can say I’m glad my husband nixed Greta for my first child. I still sort of like it as a nickname for Margaret or Gretchen, but now that I know it began life as a nickname, I can’t get past it. I’m also glad we didn’t use Giada, which was my runner up name for my first child. I think it would have been a lot harder to find a sibling name to complement Giada than the name we went with – Fiona. Plus Giada is very similar to Gianna which is somewhat popular in my area, and my daughter now has a friend named Gianna.
I really like Iliana and I think Abbott and Cullen could grow on me.
Yes! It’s interesting to see how the style of names we like have evolved as we have evolved.
For a *brief* moment, I too was on the alternative/creative spelling bandwagon. Now, I’m so thankful ones like Perreigh (ie. Perry) didn’t last to the final cut!

Nothing wrong with them — just not my style. Yet at one point they (briefly) made their way to the top of my list.
