Holiday Office Party Outfit

I need an outfit to wear to Paul’s office holiday party, which is to be held, delightfully, at a BREWERY. You may be wondering why I don’t just wear the outfit I bought the last time we discussed this, and it’s because I don’t think the pants (black velvet with some glitter) will fit. I guess I could try them. But my guess is that they will not accommodate my perimenopausal tum in a way that feels warm and loving.

Would it be BONKERS to buy sequined flare pants?:

(image from oldnavy.gap.com)

And if so, is it the GOOD kind of bonkers? What is the sound/sensation when you walk with sequined legs? Is it like corduroy but…clickier?

Also, what shoes would a person who does not wear high heels wear with these pants?

I kind of like the careless loose white oxford the model is wearing, but I’d need it LONGER (the butt MUST be covered), and I would unbutton some top buttons but NONE OF the bottom buttons. I checked to see if Old Navy had a white satin longish oxford, but they do not. This might be sour grapes, but I’m not sure I could pull off that loungey satin look anyway. I need something that suits my nervous, eager-to-please party attitude and uptight updo. My usual glitzy top is a champagne-sequined sleeveless shirt, worn with a flowy dressy thin open cardigan with a drapey front, but that is not going to work with sequined pants.

I could get these shiny black pants instead:

Less fun than the sequins, but with the benefit of working with a dressy top I’m already happy with. And maybe better for a brewery? and a spouse’s work gathering?

Or they come in silver, which is more fun but I suspect less flattering on me (I think they hit the eye as white), and also then I REALLY don’t know what to do about a top:

And I hope you ALWAYS consider yourself Automatically Reciprocally Asked in cases like this (the only reason I don’t specifically ask every single time is that I feel it comes across as Encouraging Blog Engagement)—but if you have a holiday office party to go to, what are YOU wearing? I would be so interested to know. I am not confident about fashion, and I like to start with other peoples’ templates.

These also have a sequined maxi skirt if you don’t want to learn what sequined pants sound like when you walk. That said, I love the silver pants. I clicked through the views and saw it paired with a pale silver-blue sweater. They have several styles of sweater they label as So Soft and they seem like they’d also pair with the sequins. As for shoes, if you have a low silver sandal or a ballet flat, that would work. Hard to say without knowing your closet. As for myself, I have trusty black jeans with a wider leg, a cashmere sweater, sparkly jewelry and a little more elevated makeup as my holiday party look. I just wear black Rothy’s points and call it good. This look gets its first run on Tuesday. If it’s still warm I’ll let the cashmere wait a while and wear something cooler.

I would totally go with the sequined flare pants!
For my 50th birthday party I opted for low golden Cowboy-boots paired with a long leo-print skirt, black turtleneck and a jeans-jacket. I felt just the right amount of dressed up, flashy and special.

Those sequin pants are amazing. Go for it! For non-heeled shoes I think you could do a black loafer (with or without a back) or even a pair of Converse sneakers (debating what color/fabric would be best).

I’ve also been eying the sequin skirts and pants at Old Navy even though I have no occasion to wear them!

Would pairing the pants with a sort of bulky sweater (I think Navy would look good) work? I’m thinking kind of a balance between dressing and not?

I have a pair of sequined flare pants that I bought because I loved them, and I’ve worn them so many times! I absolutely love them. And the best thing is–there’s so many different ways you can wear them!

If I wanted to cover my bum, I’d choose a sweater in a vibrant color to go with them. Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/ZESICA-Womens-Oversized-Pullover-Sweater/dp/B0BK8MZXMQ/ref=sr_1_13?brr=1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.W8w4oY5IN_ivOZKOocapl9LIF5xVXHvJE0YWIHpKhcahNaMGxZ-mixlo73faLM9cnSDemTT-wc2zfXAo9JtMSq1SeVXJCUymP11H2i6Ash5T9-lzTP4kHc513Il4j2Be_u5ohhROjSHmiOdn2m_nBC7Pj5L9QMNXiv2iDveUuK_O5ZOjtnOPXZ18Gvw7QT2S71ryzxWeuRWrdx4MjaO6ijnXy7rBm84JkdTtwZcdou_VIWc8s_FHPucU3Z4bg0nHbNU0dORS2fp2m8cbsq1S11cjjUHK1fvMRYeIQrNvE7s.RvFQKGrqhiURdh-YRReWNLN6PcnHYy6MoYoPgsLLwxc&dib_tag=se&qid=1732663272&rd=1&s=apparel&sr=1-13&th=1&psc=1

If I don’t wear mine with heels, I usually opt for my Doc Martens instead.

In my opinion they are easy to wear and really striking without showing a lot of skin, which is my favorite way to go!

I appreciate the Doc’s reference – because if I was to style sequined pants for a holiday party I’d probably err on the dressy-90’s-grunge part of my personality with a slouchy plaid (in holiday green), band-tee, Docs or converse, and a slicked-back updo/bun, red lip, and glittery metal earrings. (That said, this outfit combo likely wouldn’t be a choice for a spouse’s company party).

I love those shiny white pants at the end and feel like white and champagne go great together!
I’m at once grateful that I don’t have the pressure of dress up parties and sad that I don’t get to dress up for parties 😂

Oh man, I’m thus far out voted, but I was coming to champion the shiny black pants. Comfy. Range of shoe options. Can add dressy top (whichever you feel in the moment). Also better for rewear if that matters!

I’m team black pants as well! I think you’d have more occasions to wear them. The sequined pants are so fun, but a bit out of my comfort zone fashion wise. I’d be self conscious and nervous wearing them, but I realize that’s a me problem. If I saw someone else wearing them I’d think they were amazing!

I love the sequin pants and now want a pair. Even though I currently don’t have an occasion in mind to wear them to😀.

The sequin / shiny pants are so festive. A longer button down with a belt (also something shiny) over top the shirt would be cute and would define your waist. Love the idea of a shiny loafer too!

I love the idea of the sequined pants but my experience wearing a sequined dress and the effect of the arms rubbing against the body of the dress makes me think it’ll be annoying and shed sequins. However other commenters make me question my thinking! Love the shiny black

I can’t stand the sound of corduroy pants, so I imagine the sequin pants noise would also be annoying. Our office party is at a comedy club. I am planning on wearing jeans and a red and green flannel shirt, with my trusty brown Dansko clogs.

I recently got some flats with ankle straps which are both cute and also have the added bonus of being more comfortable. So I bought them in four colors and I will now be wearing these shoes to every dressy event from now until eternity.

I like the sequin pants; but feel like the noise and sensation would annoy me. So I would vote for the shiny black pants and maybe a sequin top? You can always add extra sparkle with a pair of silver or gold flats.

    Sequined pants! Sequined pants!!!!!

If it were me I’d wear them with solid colored shirt (maybe green or red/burgundy to fit the holiday theme) and ballet flats. I’d also bring a cardigan because I’m a big fan of layers.

I would absolutely go with the black ones. I have a similar pair from (Australian) Target which are like a straight leg black jean but shiny-ish and I get compliments on them all the time.

I highly recommend the Old Navy burgundy corduroy high-waisted flair pants paired with a denim shirt (maybe the denim shirt is over your sparkly top?) with the sleeves rolled up twice and a stack of gold necklaces along with some gold hoops or maybe a couple of diamond-like studs in the cartilage piercing. Shoes could be chunky loafers or Chelsea boots. A sparkly bow clip in your hair could subtly add that little bit of flair. Throw on a camel-colored Pea coat and a great scarf – easy, comfortable, and stylish!

The sequined pants would be fabulous. I suggest pairing them with a soft-textured slightly bulky turtleneck tunic sweater. Or maybe try a sweater-dress in a miniskirt length. For shoes, wear any flat dress shoe (ballet flat, maryjane, loafer, etc) that coordinates color-wise. Can’t wait to see your final look.

I love the sequin pants and you’d rock them. I like the idea of an oversized sweater with them. Remember too: velvet pants. I got a pair that’s kind of like leggings (although wide leg is in and I’m a fan). They are soft, comfortable and dressy. Definitely could wear any top with them!

If you have a Maurices at a mall near you, or online of course, they usually have stylish holiday options. I have a long sleeve gray blouse with black lace across the chest area, and Christmassy flannel at the bottom so it covers my butt and belly. Then I wear jeans and sequined Toms as my nod to the holiday. (I live in Toms, and wear my sparkly pairs for the holidays). My husband’s Christmas party is at a midwest steakhouse, and the company rents a room for employees. This steakhouse also has a salad bar and lets you grill your own steak, so pretty casual.

For parties, waist-up clothing is more important than waist-down. If you are wearing a white blouse with fun pants…most people just see a white blouse.

Well now I want sequin pants!!

I do have a sequin mini skirt, and one issue I have with it is that the sequins scratch my waist where they touch my skin. With a sweater on top though, you could wear a tank/cami tucked in underneath in case that happens w/the pants.

I think they could work with a wide range of shoes – dark ballet flats, mary-jane styles, rothys, etc!

I tried the sequin pants and I couldn’t get past the itchiness at the waistband. I didn’t find them noisy but I decided the waist would make me NUTS. I had a similar tragedy with a sequined top and I had raw, underarms of DOOM by the end of the night.
