If you have any shopping left in you, and would like to order yourself a nice little package to arrive after Christmas, may I strongly recommend these wee snowflake plates and wee snowflake bowls? They look so bland in their listing, but I am finding them hugely pleasing in usage—and I am happy to think of being able to continue to use them as Winter Dishes even after I put the Christmas Dishes away (always a sad day).
They are quite small. The bowls are like the berry bowls from my grandmother’s china set; do china sets still have berry bowls? You might use them for a side of jello salad, or for M&Ms, or for giving your kids some cut-up fruit. The plates are the size called “appetizer.” We use them for a couple of cookies, or for a square of cake, or for a dinner roll and some butter.
Anyway I just love them and I use them all the time. I normally tend toward bright!! colorful!! things, and these non-bright non-colorful dishes are making me doubt all my decisions. The way the glaze has settled into the embossed designs does something soothing to my brain. I wish there were a matching mug.
I will warn you that my first order of bowls arrived broken. Target immediately replaced them, and the second set arrived fine—but if you feel you might not be emotionally up to receiving a box of broken ceramic in January, and then perhaps finding out they’re sold out and there will be no replacement, well, it’s something to take into account.
Those are cute! They remind me of the “foam art” that some talented baristas can do on top of a frothy latte.
I have been transitioning in a very inconsistent and bumpy fashion from bright! colourful! things to “hmm, maybe some soothing neutrals”, and these slot right into the latter. Should I ship them to Angus in Ithaca? But then I wouldn’t get them until it’s not winter anymore. I probably shouldn’t. But I might.
Your warnings and cautions are so helpful and thoughtful. I have neither need nor desire for these bowls but read it anyway for things like “ but if you feel you might not be emotionally up to receiving a box of broken ceramic in January, and then perhaps finding out they’re sold out and there will be no replacement, well, it’s something to take into account.” It makes me feel taken care of, even though there was only a slim to zero chance of me ordering any of this.
These plates are so cute. I’m tempted by them, but keep telling myself I don’t need to spend the money right now. Maybe after Christmas. 😊
These are very, very cute! I would love a set of those. They definitely read “wintry” rather than “holiday,” which I like immensely.
These are totally my ceramic jam. I like colourful decor and clothes, but I like neutrals to eat off of.
We got a really nice set of those dishes that are kind of a combo between plates and bowls (my son christened them “plowls” and it stuck) and they’re a colour kind of like these plates – a creamy glaze but the pottery itself has kind of a honeycomb texture into which the glaze has settled unevenly. I feel very pleased every time I eat off them. The only drawback is we tend to find ourselves eating way bigger servings because we not only cover the surface, we can go up the sides with the food, unlike if they were just plates of the same diameter.
Oh hey, the store we got them from has a website: https://www.zonemaison.com/en/products/art-de-la-table/bols/bia-truffle/21269-BLANC/pasta-bowl-8frac14-inches-cream
We call those “platebowls” in my house! Not quite as creative as ‘plowls’ :)
