Look at my Target clearance haul:
The one on the far left was the most expensive: a $3.44 (50% off) Revlon lip gloss I never should have bought because I KNOW I won’t use a gloss that gets painted on with a little brush, I KNOW I won’t. But the way the color looked in the bottle was so exactly what I love. Perhaps I will frame the whole bottle and put it on the wall to enjoy the color properly, since on the lips the color is roughly 1% visible.
All the rest are $2.08 (70% off) Cover Girl gloss balm lip crayons. I bought one of every clearance color. I’ve tried two so far, both pinks. I like them well enough to be happy with the purchase. And I love when things are 70% off, so that instead of having to risk $7 to try ONE color, for the same price I can try MORE THAN THREE. I would never have risked a color called “watermelon” if I were paying full-price for it. It’s especially difficult to tell with sheers/glosses (I have a sheer that LOOKS like it will be bright red, but isn’t), which is why I love being able to try a ton of them.

I watched Enough Said, and I liked it. I liked that it was people over 40 falling in love. I liked both characters and thought both of them (1) looked their age and (2) were completely believable as love interests. I liked that the actors were the same age. I liked the secondary plot of kids going off to college.
I felt uncomfortable with how much time the movie spent on his physical appearance and other perceived superficial flaws (no nightstands—GASP!), especially because I was thinking he was a catch. It made me wonder if we should spend some time on HER flaws, maybe. Oh, she’s thin and has nightstands, so EVERYTHING ABOUT HER IS FINE?? *pant pant* But she was too likeable for me to resent HER for it: I only resented those parts of the script, and also the entire world.
The main plot complication was the kind I just HATE, and I suffered through it; it reminded me of why I stopped watching Seinfeld. But I still liked the movie overall, and the main scene of intense suffering was over with fairly quickly.
I remember thinking the same thing during Enough Said, that they were awfully harsh on Gandolfini’s character and Julia L-D’s character was uncomfortably blunt about it! But other than that, I really liked that movie, too.
That scene where she is going on and on about the nightstands is awful and almost ruins it for me. But I figured it was just to indicate how much she was letting Catherine Keener’s character get to her. I figured the stuff about him being fat was LA. I really loved that movie though, I can’t believe it was his last! Weep!
OMG that scene was so cringey. I have to admit that I’ve been influenced by my friends’ opinions disproportionately. I thought it was a really good movie, although I’m weary of California as a setting for these quieter dramas. It must be cheaper and more convenient to do CA as a setting, but it is so specific in terms of fashion and home decor.
That picture of lip glosses has me jonesing. I have a bunch of the Revlon ColorBurst lip crayons, which look exactly the same as those CG ones, and which are amazing. I need more. Always more! The only problem with buying clearance is that if you fall in love with a colour, they’ll never have it again.
This movie made me wonder if the film makers had actually met any men. Why the everlasting heck would anyone care about nightstands? That really bugged me. Along with the whole, “she is thin, he is heavier, how could she ever love him?”.
Note to Hollywood-when people are in love, weight doesn’t matter. I gained a substantial amount of weight after I had my daughter, and guess what?? My husband still loves me! What a concept! My husband is almost 50 lbs heavier than when we married-I DON’T CARE!
Believe it or not, I did like the movie, for the reasons Swistle mentioned. Still-it could have been much better.
I just like that this blog post title could just be a comment on the clearance haul!
Isn’t it funny how different lip products always look different on your lips than they do in the package? I have so many barely-used lipsticks that I saw in the store, fell in love with, bought without trying on, and then ended up hating. All my favorite lipsticks are colors I didn’t expect to love when I got them. Two were colors I bought to match specific dresses and only planned to wear on one occasion, another was a color my mom gave me because it didn’t look good on her, and another was a color that looked ridiculously bright in the store but I bought anyway just for fun. (It is ridiculously bright, but I love it anyway.)
Ruby is my lipstick-buying heart-sister. And I love your comment about framing the lipstick – I just bought a lip stain from a friend who sells Younique makeup, and same deal – lovely colour, would need about fifteen coats to see it. And SO MUCH YES about the movie, especially the Seinfeldian/Three’s Company aspect. And yet still enjoyable. This is why I love watching British stuff so much – so much less emphasis on perfect-looking actors.
