This seems like a good day to have my coffee in my Will and Kate mug.
I’m also wearing my bleach-fireworks shirt, for probably the last time (fabric is finally disintegrating from being worn/washed a million times).

I am having a touch of the blues. They are of the “Some day all my lovingly-acquired possessions are going to be dumped in some yard sale or consignment shop, where strangers will look at them and say ‘meh’ and/or make mocking remarks” variety.
This is the flip side of one of the things I like about shopping at consignment store, which is the feeling of giving someone else’s lovingly-acquired possession a loving new home. It can backfire, as seen here.
That reminds me, though, to show you one of my recently/lovingly-acquired possessions:
I’ve been questing for a bureau for Elizabeth’s room, and found this old bureau at a consignment store. It had been marked down, like, THREE TIMES, yet it is gorgeous (cream and gilt and all curvy and shapey) and has drawers that are dove-tailed front AND back. And it goes very nicely with Elizabeth’s bed frame, another consignment-shop find. And also with the little bookshelf, which we assembled from a box from Target.
I had that same dresser as a little girl. The set also had a large desk/bookshelf to go along with it. I just called my mom to ask where the furniture had gone, and she reassured me it was safe in storage. Glad to see another little girl enjoying the furniture as I did!
That dresser is Gorgeous! Well-picked, Swistle!!
Such a cute room! Would you please come update my daughter’s? She’s four but she still has a changing table in there that I’m using for stuffed animal storage. #decorFAIL
el-e-e- Ha ha! This REPLACED A CHANGING TABLE! We are decor twins!
You should go read this post: http://www.memoriesoncloverlane.com/search/label/Time%20Flies…t will either cheer you up or plunge you deeper into melancholy, hard to say. ;)
A little history on that bureau: I had the whole set growing up. It was my mother’s and she was given it in the early 70s. The name/style is French Provincial-(esk)!
When I was growing up, I had a tall dresser that must have been from that same collection! Looked exactly like that. I had the desk, too.
I have to tell you, I am feeling under the weather today with a cold, and I woke up too early, and I’m just ever so weary of politics, and I thought to myself, “Oooh, I hope Swistle has posted!” and you had, and it perked up my morning considerably.
That looks perfect in her room. So pretty!
I had that bureau too! (Along with the tall “lingerie chest” and the headboard/footboard.) I stuck pictures of Shaun Cassidy, Erik Estrada, and the Bay City Rollers in the mirror.
And now you know how old I am.
It’s lovely! Also that shirt is very cool; I had never seen that post before!
I have that style dresser, night stand and bedstead! But my dresser has three long drawers. So funny!
Elizabeth’s new/old dresser makes ME happy from afar. THIS RIGHT HERE is the wonder of the internet.
Thanks for that, on this cold, gloomy, never-ending-politicking day.
Beautiful! L’s room also has a combo changing table in it still. haha
I had that bureau, and a matching nightstand and a canopy bed (with Strawberry shortcake bedspread and canopy)! My parents got rid of it at some point but then when I was in my 20s they took my grandma’s bedroom set (um, after she died) which included that dresser and mirror, two nightstands, a double bed (much to my annoyance – so small), a table for the foot of the bed, an armchair, and a desk with a matching chair. It’s funny how that dresser keeps reappearing in my life! Even on my blogs!
I had that dresser as a little girl! I was so disappointed when my mom bought it. I wanted a pink and white dresser from Ikea like my friend had at the time. But now the dresser still sits in the guest room at my parents’ house and I can see why my mom fell in love with it! I hope Elizabeth likes it more than I did as a kid :)
So pretty! Love that peek into Elizabeth’s room, so nice.
I love shopping consignment, it makes me so happy to buy the nice old items, and I always imagine my things making other people happy when they are discovered in the shop. :)
That bureau looks perfect in Elizabeth’s room. It’s one of those things that could be hard to find a place for.
Ha! I ALSO had that dresser (and mirror) along with the matching night stands, desk and canopy bed! Apparently, it was a very popular collection back in the day.
HOW DID SO MANY OF YOU HAVE THAT VERY BUREAU?? Isn’t that NEAT/STRANGE?? I wonder where it was sold? It makes me very happy to think I might find MATCHING PIECES on another consignment shopping day!
I’m pretty sure it was a very common style in the 70s-80s. I know my parents got mine at Basset.
Ok, I know I already commented, but I am a dork and have to comment AGAIN! I apologize! Courtney in Amsterdam–I had ALL of that, including the Strawberry bedding with canopy!! Plus, my name is Courtney…so, full circle craziness! Ok, all finished!! :)
That is a seriously great bureau!
I had the set, although not that piece. It was the French Provincial set and I believe it came from Sears. My parents bought it with the money from a settlement after an accident (about 1977?) and it was the only time I ever actually had a set of bedroom furniture.

Kelley- OH COOL! It looks like hers is similar though not quite the same (top drawers don’t have that shaped thing).
Ahhh, we have some of that furniture! It belonged to my husband’s auntie when she was a girl. We have the night stand and then a taller dresser which has those same drawers but I think it’s 4 of them stacked on top of each other. Wish we had this piece too – not that we have the room!
My two aunts were born in the 70s and had that bedroom set. Canopy beds, bureau, chest, dressers, and nightstands.
When my cousin and I were little, we had it as our bedset.
Now that you know it’s name, maybe look on Freecycle or Craigslist for your area?
It’s in thrift and consignment shops around our area ALL. THE. TIME. and cracks me up, b/c like I said in above comment, it was my aunts’, then my bedset, growing up. So it’s so familiar and “HEY THAT’S MINE” feeling.
her room is so cute!!!!!
