Four times in the last week, I’ve been typing a post in Blogger and the page has, like, refreshed or something, deleting my post. At first I thought I must have done something, pushed the wrong key combination or something, but repetition has destroyed that theory: it has happened when I’m just sitting there proof-reading, not even touching the keyboard, and nothing else is touching the keyboard either.
Sometimes I can get the post back by hitting the back and forward buttons until I happen upon it. Sometimes I can’t get it back at all. Whether it ends in relief or frustration, it’s INCREDIBLY WRONG AND SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN WTH. Do I need to copy and paste every 30 seconds into a wordprocessing document just for security, or is Blogger going to get its act together?

I was just thinking how I used to READ THE TV GUIDE, which I got from THE NEWSPAPER, and then I would PROGRAM THE VCR so that it would RECORD SHOWS. I plan to make that sound a lot more exciting for my grandchildren.

There are few things I hate more than stepping on something sticky. Oh—well, I mean, sure: bigotry, poverty, spiders, political ads. But after THAT, it’s stepping on something sticky. Or more specifically, the first step AFTER stepping on something sticky. There are days I think that if I step on ONE MORE raisin, I will NEVER BUY RAISINS AGAIN.
boiled spiders.
StephLove- AIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Twitter does that auto refresh thing to me sometimes, just when I’ve gotten my 147 characters down to 140 in a proper manner. I would shriek with frustration if I kept losing whole blog posts. (But I use WordPress, so I am of no help.)
I remember using the newspaper TV guide and circling things. Then we would just have to REMEMBER to watch them. WITH COMMERCIALS.
The last time we went to visit my mother, we mentioned a show coming up that she might like. So she got out the remote and started doing some weird button pressing/menus thing, and it took us three full minutes to realize that she was *programming her VCR.* I almost passed out from the sheer trippiness of it.
I used to lose posts in WordPress, too – now I type them up in a text editor like Notepad then just copy and paste them into the blog interface when ready to post. It’s still annoying, but the peace of mind is worth it (also, my children’s innocent ears, as I have a sailor’s mouth when a post is lost).
I agree with your list of things that you hate. For me, just after stepping on something sticky is stepping in something wet. I loathe wet socks.
I dread stepping on wet spots. It’s generally either milk or pee. Neither option is very pleasant.
I work with a bunch of early twentysomethings and they look at my blankly when I say “record a program”. Ahahah, old habits die hard.
someone i know, who grew up in the bronx, told me that he would never eat cereal with raisins, because in the bronx, the raisins move.
Oh, walking on something sticky and then have sticky-steps…GAH.
I type my once-in-a-blue-moon posts in a Google Doc, then copy and paste it into Blogger. I’ve lost too many posts to refreshes or whatever the hell.
PROGRAMMING THE VCR! And then if the power went out you would be totally screwed because the time would be at 12:00. I sucked at programming the VCR. Why was it so hard? And the TV guide in the NEWSPAPER. I think liver spots just broke out on my hands, I feel so old now.
Apropos of nothing, remember the funny pages? Do they still have the funny pages?
I also type in a text box and paste into blogger, BUT I’ve also started having to add my own paragraph tags. Stupid blogger
K stepped in tree sap on Sunday and he is STILL sticky.
I feel the same about stepping in something wet. ACK! I hate wet socks.
I usually type my posts in a blank outlook email message, and then cut and paste. Works like a charm, and outlook auto-saves, so it’s a bonus.
I haven’t had blogger delete whole posts…..YET (knocking on wood furiously). There is something called LiveWriter that I’ve used once or twice and it seemed to work well. You write the post in it and then post it to your blog. I think, if I’m remembering right, the only thing I didn’t care for was that I couldn’t preview what the actual blog would look like prior to actually publishing.
And for whoever asked – yes, the paper still prints the funny pages. I know this because I am one of the very few who still actually gets an actual newspaper delivered every day (I realize with that sentence, I just made myself sound far older than I actually am; *sigh*). Why, I don’t know, all I ever actually read is the funny pages, Dear Abby (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) and the crosswords puzzles.
I also detest stepping on little Legos – not gross – but painful!
I have stepped in cat excrement more times than I care to count. One of the perils of being a cat owner.
I hate it when I break my own rule to never write a post somewhere it can’t be saved frequently (which means I always write it in word, or maybe gmail, then paste into blogger).
The frustrating thing to me is that Blogger DOES automatically SAVE posts, and FREQUENTLY! So…why isn’t the post saved? And in fact, it seems like it’s the auto-save feature that might be bugging out and deleting instead!
