It Doesn’t Put Me in the Mood to Go Swimming

GEEZ, this freaks me out:

It’s Amazon.com’s ad for their swim section, and they show it to me each time I place an order, on the “Thanks, your order has been placed” page. To me it looks like she’s DROWNED—well, or drownING, since there are still bubbles. But in any case, she does not look like she is heading for the surface any time soon, and her facial expression is not right, and what is with her FULL MAKE-UP, and her neck tendons look like comic book drawings, and she sure doesn’t exude WILL TO LIVE, and also her swimsuit straps don’t match, and the upshot is that I’m startled every time I see the ad. She doesn’t look like she’s SWIMMING, she looks like she’s SINKING. And the water doesn’t look like a nice place to swim, either.

Have not seen this one yet, but thank you for pointing it out.

She definitely looks like old school, original Barbie being drowned. The look on her face is really freaking me out – I agree – no will to live detected. Even trying to look at it from a male perspective it’s not even appealing or sexy. She should have her eyes CLOSED and heading up to the surface – that would be so much more refreshing.

I just ordered something from Amazon a few days ago and was WAY creeped out by her. She totally looks like someone strangled her, she died with her eyes open, and then had her body dumped into the ocean.

Holy GROSS. That does not look one bit like a person. It’s like some creepy serial-killer movie that involves a Barbie mask. *shudder*

She’s the kind of weird underwater being one might expect to see in bodies of water that also feature insidious seaweed and inexplicably evil, murky patches.

That is CREEPY. But aside from giving me the hibbity jibbities, I am weirdly upset by the mismatched straps. Is it a graphic design mistake? Is the suit multicolored? Is she wearing two different one-strapped suits at the same time? ARGH.

Ugh, I’m behind on my blog reading and I’m so sad someone else already said she looks like a drowning Barbie. But yet, totally a drowning Barbie!! Yuck!

This made me laugh out loud for a full two minutes. My husband thinks I’m crazy right now. You pointed out everything that is wrong with this ad (that I don’t think I would have noticed-other than it being creepy), and in a really funny way, as usual!

This looks a lot like a disastrous photo shoot they had on America’s Next Top Model several seasons ago. It was gross then and it’s gross now.

That kind of gives me the shivers. Like the movie I saw where the guy ties women up and weights them down in the water in fancy dresses to make himself a ‘garden’.

The art dept. definitely photo shopped the bejezuz out of this woman. Have you ever seen the documentary “Still Killing Us Softly” from the late 70s-early 80s? This is exactly what is discussed. I’m so pleased to see 30+ years later that advertising has evolved…

I had to investigate this site further…there are a few shots that are even WORSE if you can believe. Very glad I just bought 2 swimsuits at Kohl’s ;)

All I’m saying is, if this DOES put you in the mood to swim, then I’m guessing you have bigger problems than finding an enticingly discounted bathing suit.

Wow – that is even stranger than some of the oddball things they do on America’s Next Top Model and that’s saying a lot (not that I, uh, know).

Yes, this does not make me want to swim…

Oh my goodness!!! Hahaha! One of our mutual readers sent me your link because I did a post that mentioned this exact same ad. And I have the exact same aversion to it. Creepy McCreepersons!
