Except for a brief experiment with some earrings that turned a weird color in her ears, Elizabeth’s been wearing only her pink heart-shaped ear-piercing earrings ever since she got her ears pierced. I highly recommend this, by the way, until the child is old enough to manage her own earrings: just leave them in all the time, and use the piercing ones because they’re surgical steel and the backings lock on so she can’t lose them.
But somehow she lost one. Isn’t it lucky I have so much trouble getting rid of things that are expensive, sentimental, or theoretically useful? Because I opened my jewelry box, took out the gold star-shaped earrings I had MY ears pierced with when _I_ was 5, and put them in her ears.
So sweet! Aren’t they poke-y on the stud part? I remember hating mine because they stabbed me when I rolled over at night.
I agree! (BTW, I had the gold hearts!… but I was in 4th grade.) Kate has had her ears pierced for… 2 years, I think, and she STILL wears only her studs (the ones she got pierced with) 99% of the time. She’s never had an infection or any problems this way, so I think it pays off to wear the studs for a LONG time.
Sometimes for special occasions (like Christmas) she’ll change them, but only for the day. Before bed, she always wants the studs back in.
Also, pro tip, if you take the studs out for any amount of time, it will hurt a little to put them back in, as they are thicker than regular earrings.
Agreed! I use the original backings from the studs on all of Boo’s earrings. That way she never loses them and they don’t poke her behind the ears. I would love to change them more than we actually do but she has a little tiny set of pearls and they are just so cute I can’t bear to take them out.
whoa, flashback. I had the little gold stars too!
So sweet.
Love this! Today at school K. is giving a report on Laura Ingalls Wilder while wearing a prairie girl dress my mom made me when I was her age. *sniff*
I had the gold stars too! I can’t believe you kept them!!!
Best defense for pack-ratness I’ve ever read. Am printing out for husband immediately!
*Sniff*
Love.
I think I still have mine too.
Strange you posted about this. We just changed my 5 year olds earrings for the first time (left the studs in for around 6 months) uhm MISTAKE! She is constantly taking her earrings out now. Seriously thinking about putting the studs back in to prevent this. Her studs had this awesome back on them where they couldn’t poke her (kinda rounded) loved em- and her ears healed great in them!
I had to wait until I was fifteen and a half to get my ears pierced. And THAT was with my mom bending her strict Not Until You’re Sixteen policy. Fifteen and a half.
I still have MINE too!!!!!!!
I’m pretty sure my studs are long gone because my mom was like an anti-saver, but I LOVE that Elizabeth can wear yours now. LOVE.
