I sent two photos of Elizabeth’s new magenta room to my friend this morning, and that reminded me I hadn’t done any photos here:

Next up is William and Henry’s room. I’m not sure if I’ve ever said why we have the rooms split up into pairs of one older boy and one younger boy—instead of the more intuitive arrangement of Two Older Boys and Two Younger Boys. It’s because Rob and William don’t get along. Huh. That took less time to explain than I’d expected.
So. Henry wants a blue and orange room, and William wants a blue and green room. They both want intense shades of these colors, and we are having such happy feelings about our orange bathroom and our magenta Elizabeth’s room, we’re going with that. For the blue: Behr Jamaican Sea, 510B-5. The orange: Behr Orange Spice 250B-5 (left over from our bathroom). The green: Behr Tart Apple 420B-4. Here’s a screen shot I took from Behr.com to show you what the colors look like together:
The original plan was to do three walls blue, then split the fourth wall horizontally with green on the top half and orange on the bottom half, so that each boy could have his bunk area in his own color choice. But now Paul is getting all interested in doing something crazier than that, so we’ll see.

That looks totally awesome. I love the blue/green/orange together, too. When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed anything other than off-white. As soon as I was allowed colour, I went for a dark blue-purple which I hated within months and later painted over in cream again. Now I rent so I can’t decorate, but if I could, everything would be sunny yellow. Yum.
Elizabeth’s room looks so pretty! I love her simple, tie-back curtains. I might just look into something like that for Maggie’s room.

I love the magenta!!! When I was Elizabeth’s age, I also wanted a magenta room. It wasn’t merely the color, it was also the word “magenta.” Divine. It looks great. I’m glad you (plural) did it!

Elizabeth’s room is so raspberry sherbert-ish that it makes my mouth water, a little.
My daughter’s room has a wall of that exact same color (the other walls are a paler shade).
Did you find that after you painted Elizabeth’s room, you liked the color of the wood floor better? That happened to me with my kitchen cabinets after we painted. It really just seems to go so well together.
Looks adorable!! So bright, cheerful and happy!! It’s not easy to have both blue, green AND orange in one room, but the ones you chose go together so nicely! The magenta was a little shocking on its own, but with the furniture back in and the lighter curtains, it looks PERFECT!! Nicely done! :)
Misty- YES. And what’s weird is, I’d thought “Too bad our woodwork isn’t white, so it’ll look so awful with all these colors”—and although I think white WOULD be better, I find I like it FINE. And I think the wood floors have a lot to do with that: the color kind of ties the floors to the trim in a way it hadn’t before.
Love the room! I’m from the browns and greens and other general warm colors categories so I love when someone has the cahoonies to go bold. Makes me wish I weren’t so dang careful.
Are you okay with the whole doing the painting yourself thing? Did you find it wasn’t quite as awful as you expected?

i am SO IMPRESSED with your willingness to use Bold! Colors! on your walls. i’m having strong wall painting cravings for chris’s house, now that i will be living there too.
I love the colors, E’s room looks amazing, especially, as someone pointed out, with the floors. I really admire you for doing what your kids want in their rooms. My parents did it and I sort of can’t wait until my kids are old enough to ask. It seems like such a great thing for them, it must feel so good for them to be in those rooms!
Well I commented before that my son’s room is bright blue and orange and he loves it. It sounds atrocious, but once it was up it wasn’t as eyewatering as I’d feared and he loves it. If we ever sell this house painting that room over is going to be a major job, but by that time I think I might just be old enough to hire a professional painter and walk away from it…

Having just returned from Jamaica, I’m ALL for “Jamaican sea”. In fact, I’m glancing at our rather putrid looking living room and imagining a little painting project of our own…
Okay, this is way random and unrelated, but you’ve mentioned Elizabeth’s sleeping issues before and I just wondered if you think it is related to her being a twin in her own bedroom? So maybe she gets lonely? We have sleep issues here too, so I’m just curious. I had hoped that putting our two kids in one room would make a difference (it hasn’t seemed to). On topic…I LOVE your paint colors. Your house seems like such a happy place.
Nik-Nak- Paul said HE’D do it! So I’ve found it very pleasant indeed!
Beth- We’ve wondered that too. I tried to use it as a reason to have another baby, but Paul declined that solution. We also thought about maybe putting the three littles in one room…but then that leaves the two bigs. Hm. And Edward and Henry both dislike being on their own. Hm. It’s like that logic puzzle with the fox and the chicken and the bag of chicken feed!
So, so pretty. Plus, you’re ALL happy with it, which is a nice little bonus.
I love the room, and Elizabeth looks SO CUTE in it with her little coordinating tights. It’s so fun and girly. I grew up with a pepto-bismol shade of pink, and the magenta is so much better!
I really like her room! That is a bold choice too – I think I would have been too scared, which doubly makes me appreciate how nice it turned out.

As to the boys’ room – might I suggest chalkboard paint? It’s easy-peasy to make using whatever color you want (mix with tile grout), and might be awesome as a contrasting wall or part-of-wall. Plus, you know, WRITING ON THE WALL! (I did my basement door as a chalkboard, and I LOVE it! Can you tell?)

In the boys room I would paint the bottom 3 feet of all walls in the blue color (since they both like blue)and then do 2 walls in orange and 2 walls in Green for their respective areas of the room. The colors you picked are great!
