Fresh Heather

The painting has begun! We are painting the room that used to be our room but will soon be the office/computer room. And when I say “we” I mean “Paul,” because I was researching painters and he said, “Oh, I’ll paint it,” and I said “OKAY” before he was even done saying the “it” part of that sentence. We chose Behr Fresh Heather, a bright lilac color. And when I say “we” I mean “Paul chose it from my Dither Pile because he would rather go with HOT PINK than endure more than an hour or two of paint-color-related dithering.”

Okay, so here is our room Before (note the Krazy Bedding that results when a cat keeps peeing on the bed and so eventually you are making the bed with six twin blankets because all the king-sized ones are in the laundry, and you’ve put your pretty comforter away for the time being):

And here is some of the stuff now living in our hallway (the rest is in the living room), and please note Melty‘s genius idea to just MOVE THE WALL STICKERS TO ANOTHER WALL to store them. I’d been thinking I’d need wax paper and baggies and a flat place and AAAAAAAAAAAA, and then she said her idea and I was like “o.O”.

And here is the paint going on the walls, showing us just how smudgy and dingy our old walls were:

At the far left of the photo under Paul’s arm you can see the hole he cut in the wall for the new computer cables. I keep expecting a mouse to come popping out of there.

Speaking of mice, we have caught a fifth mouse with the shock trap. It’s getting totally routine: each morning I go down to the laundry room to look, and each morning the light is blinking and I remove a mouse. The second trap isn’t catching anything in the oven drawer, so I might move that one to the chocolate-chip shelf.

Whenever I see someone else’s bedroom I am reminded of taking a tour of a friend’s house and when we got to the bedroom, he said in a hilariously sleazy voice, “AND THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS.”

So that is what I thought when I saw your bedroom. THE MAGIC. IT HAPPENS THERE.

I am so in love with your house projects right now. Not that I envy the PROCESS of moving stuff and things being CHAOTIC, but I DO envy the GETTING SHIT DONE, YO aspect. Plus, when it’s done, everything will be all new and fresh and FUN! Makes me want to start a painting project of my own, actually…

Also, I LOVE the color. Also-also, I had NO IDEA that wall decals would RE-STICK if moved. The more you know! Also-also-also, “where the magic happens” is a running joke around here, too.

What a lovely, happy color. I am excited to see how it turns out—I think it will make your already pretty floors really stand out.

We started on Chicken’s room today. I will be taking picks tomorrow!! He invited a friend over to help him pack up his room-which I highly recommend as I spent my time in bed giving directions for the first few hours. Heavenly.

You’re so fast! I’m really impressed. We have a similar project in mind, reshuffling the den, and three kids’ rooms, but in 4 months we’ve barely gotten further than buying a bed and a TV stand, moving the TV, a desk and packing up some books and toys. We’re thinking maybe we’ll be done by the summer.

So pretty! What a fresh, cheerful color!

I always admire people who go for bright, cheerful colors on their walls. They look SO PRETTY once they are carried out, but in my head I always worry that on MY walls or with MY (lack of) decorating sense, they will look garish and brash. Hence, I have never painted a wall in my life.

Those shock traps work well. Our neigborhood hardware store boasts the highest sales of those in the country. You totally want to move in next door to us now, I know it, because we’re number one!

Recently we moved from one house to another house just down the street, and the neighbors were treated to the sight of my husband and I calmly walking down the road with various Disney Princess stickers attached to our arms and shirts. Another move we took the same stickers and affixed them to the inside of the car windows. So yeah, 3 bedrooms now they’ve been in.
