1. We have named the kitten. Her name is Chicken Feather (Mrs.). Both words are pronounced as nouns, rather than as an adjective and a noun; i.e., it’s not CHICKENfeather, it’s CHICK-ken FEATH-ther. This name came about because I wanted to name her Feather (for her plumey tail), and Paul wanted to name her Mrs. Feather (which is odd while she’s a kitten, but we think she will grow into it), and the children wanted to name her Chicken (Henry’s idea) and then I wanted to name her Chicken too. So! It’s Chicken, or Feather, or Mrs. Feather. Or “The Kitten.”
2. Rob has acquired a second goldfish. It’s a grey one. Neither fish has a name yet, and when I told him I was posting this he said “Can you ask them for suggestions?” They are settling in well, and we are learning about The Nitrogen Cycle. I realize measurement of goldfish happiness is more art than science, but the first fish is now swimming perkily around instead of moping fearfully behind his/her plants, so I consider Goldfish Two a success. I tried to get a picture of him/her, but you know what’s hard to photograph? FISH, that’s what.
3. If you were following my silly flustering on Twitter, when Paul and I had a night out on Tuesday and I changed clothes about twelve times? I decided on a similar outfit to the one I wore to that Christmas party I was so nervous about this past Christmas. I wore dark boot-cut jeans, a black cami, a dark pink button down with several buttons unbuttoned, little fancy black sandals, and a necklace on a black ribbon. I finally felt dressed right, so apparently that is my outfit for Times of Uncertainty.
4. I’m not pregnant, and I was glad. I never thought I’d feel that feeling. When the twins were 6 months old I had a pregnancy “scare,” and I was very disappointed when I turned out not to be. Just to demonstrate the depth and duration of this problem.
i am now feeling badly that i had just one goldfish for, like, 10 years. it was the longest living goldfish in HISTORY, and he never had a little friend to swim around with. alas!
i pretty much always wear the exact same thing when dressing up, too. i mean, i have different dresses and different outfits in different colors and patterns and stuff? but when it comes down to it, i feel the most comfortable/hot in specific cuts so that’s what i wear. like, ALL THE TIME.
That outfit sounds rockin’. As does Mrs. Chicken Feather.
We didn’t name our previous 3 fish and on pet day at preschool Biscuit was asked their names and told her teacher they were “Corn, Salami and some other food. Maybe Biscuit?” So you could go with food names ;)
!!! I have a cat named chicken too, Snoopy Chicken. He’s black & white so my stepson wanted to name him Snoopy (possibly in honor of our deceased kitty, Puppy), but it really didn’t fit. Snoopy Chicken has this habit of flopping down in a full stretch, making him look like a rubber chicken, so I added that to his name. He is now Snoopy Chicken, Chicken, The Chicken, Chickadee, etc.
Needless to say, I love Chicken Feather as a name.
As for fish? I’m not so good with naming fish. I’d probably grab some paired names from culture or science (Steed & Peel, Spin & Charm). The only problem with using paired names is that you’re screwed if you end up with a third fish…
We had 5 or 6 fish for a while and we let the kids name them what they wanted. The names I remember are Santa, Grandpa, Beluga (as in baby beluga) and Train. We were never really certain who was who in there.
Me either, yet I’d hoped to be.
Fish:
Sally (orange one, she is for sure a Sally)
and
Pencil (grey, as in pencil lead).
Livi
I would be calling that kitten “Chickie” all day long. Mrs. Chicken Feather, aka Chickie.
And those fish. Hank and Lila. Because my cousin’s aunt and uncle on the other side that are named Hank and Lila, well, I always thougt those names sounded great together. :D
A friend of mine has an older kitten named Chicken who is also black and white and I always forget his name. But it is very very cute.
As for the goldfish, does Rob have any favorite shows or games he could name them after?
Chicken, huh… I like it!
As for the fish: Bubble and Squeak perhaps? (that’s an English dish: cooked cabbage fried with cooked potatoes and often meat)
Chicken Feather. Now why didn’t I think of that?
My newish camera has an “aquarium” setting! I’ve yet to attempt a picture of Egg’s betta & aquatic frog but it has worked at an actual aquarium. I was super excited to realize this while at the aquarium. Yay me! Also, I need more pics of Mrs, Chicken Feather The Kitten please.
ooh, yes, Chickie is such a cute nn for Mrs Chicken Feather!
Congrats (?) on #4!
I can identify with #1, it was the same reason we had a kitten named Zachariah Lion Fox.
Dear Swistle, please tell me that you have a secret joking thing with Plain Jane and do not think that she is about the meanest thing that ever hit twitter. Because if not, I am ready to lodge a protest. Good lord.
Laura- Sadly no, no secret joking thing.
Just have to chime in with the “I, too, have a cat named Chicken” people. It is a perfect name for a cat. Now, we also have another cat named Noodle, so we may, in fact, have issues. Our dog is named Birdie. Hmm.
