Hey, Etsy peeps. I had a thought. What if I reviewed a bunch of Etsy peeps’ stuff on the new review blog, in time for holiday shopping? I’ve wanted to do that before, but on this blog I have an ad that prevents me from accepting things for review. On the new review blog? No ad. And I am super in favor of people doing their gift-buying on Etsy. So….would that be good? or useless?
Edit: Oooo, wait. I have thought of a Big Fret. What if an Etsy peep sends me a sample—and I DON’T LIKE IT?? It’s one thing to give an honest negative review about a manufacturer’s item, but about an ETSY PEEP’S item? I’m not sure I could do it.
Oh, here’s another problem: what if the Etsy peep only makes things that are way too expensive to send a sample of? Like, I was looking at the Etsy shop of commenter Angie and OMG SO GORGEOUS, and obviously she is not going to send a TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR QUILT for a review—so what do we do, in that case? We fret, right? Good, because I am ALL OVER THAT.

I would love that. I always want to buy stuff from Etsy but I get nervous/overwhelmed about the quality and what I really want since there is tons of cute stuff!

I don’t have an Etsy shop. But I lurve Etsy and I find it so hard to just browse there (i.e. weed through the crap). So most of the time I go to an Etsy shop based on it being featured somewhere. I think it would be a win-win for an Etsy seller to be reviewed by you.

it would be awesome to me and might just inspire me to stock my shop–i’ve been selling locally on consignment and ignoring etsy :( guess that would mean I would need to send samples ASAP for review!!
Sounds great to me – I have no experience whatsoever with Etsy, but have seen items featured on blogs and always think they look cute. If you do do this, could you specify if they ship stuff abroad (I’m in France) as there’s nothing more frustrating that finding the cute, perfect thingamabob for whatshisname only to discover, five clicks later that no, they only ship inside the US…

the first Etsy fret I cannot help you with – but the second – might someone send you something really expensive for review and then you could send it back?
Or they could make you a mini version of something.
All of that is just a long of way me saying I will totally send you stuff from my shop to review if you decide to do this.
Didn’t read the other comments, but here’s a thought I had (and maybe someone else already said this)…
What if you even just review the Etsy shop by browsing the site, and then sharing the shop’s name, the types of stuff that’s there, and typical price ranges… and then you don’t ever have to negative review, because you aren’t testing the item… but maybe you can just at least share some Etsy shops with easy-to-find links?
My problem with Etsy (which I’ve never shopped from) is that I don’t know who has a good shop, which shops are worth trying, etc… so links to some particular shops would make me give it a try.

I say yes to the reviews. Why don’t you just set out some guidelines for submissions? Also, maybe you could approach some sellers and ask them if you could do a review. You can also just highlight some shops you like, whether you actually get a product to review or not. Etsy is such a treasure, but there is SO much there that having someone feature some great shops would be a big help.
Do it! Do it! Do it! I love etsy and have never been disappointed with the products or shop owners. They have always accommodated my weird shipping requests and some have even started new product lines for me! You can’t go wrong promoting home businesses–especially when so many of them are SAHMs.
Hmm . . . that is tough! I am one of these Etsy Peeps of which you speak. I’d be happy to send a sample to you for review, but it is true . . . I’d be bummed if you didn’t like it!
When you’re dealing with Etsy sellers things are so much more personal . . . if you don’t like a product that you bought from a big corporation there usually wouldn’t be any one person who would take that personally. If you don’t like something someone made with their own two hands . . . now that is different!
Maybe instead you could do a post on products you’ve bought from Etsy and know you love already. Or things in your favorites list.
For items you don’t care for, you could return the item to the seller and say that the item did not “fit with your target audience.” That’s what I told fiction writers when I had to turn down their stories (and some were actually pretty good, they just genuinely did not fit in with our target audience … but most of them were very, very bad).
Pass the blame … that damn target audience.

i LOVE buying from etsy, but it’s so overwhelming to find what i want / a good store / quality stuff amongst the millions of things being sold there. i love it when people just direct me straight to cute things!
The review page would be great. And put a disclaimer saying that you will only be reviewing items that you can be enthusiastic about and that all reviews will be positive or neutral in nature. If I were an etsy seller, I would send something in hopes of a positive review w/o having to worry about getting a negative one, if you happened not to like it.

Could one of the first reviews be about earrings? My BIL is bringing his girlfriend to Thanksgiving (where we are also doing Christmas gift exchange) and she’s wearing cool earrings in every photo I’ve seen of her.
