If You’re Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands (*crickets*)

Kitten Lovecakes, cheer me up this morning. I am droopy and cranky for no good reason. I will say some happy things, and then you will say some, and maybe this will have a dedroopifying effect. Little or big, all things happy, deposit them here.

1. I am going to see my niece again! In early September!

2. A friend sent me a care package out of the blue. By TOTAL COINCIDENCE, I’d sent HER a care package out of the blue, and it arrived at her house the same day hers arrived at mine.

3. I have all the ingredients on hand for either cookies or brownies.

4. There is plenty of coffee.

5. The mail has not yet arrived, so there is still the possibility that it will contain something fun.

6. Okay, I am running out of things. Your turn.

    1. It’s rained for the first time in 3 months. For Seattle, that’s saying a lot. We neeeeeeded it.

    2. My husband comes home soon.

    3. I am ready for my first ever triathlon this Sunday. I actually followed through! (at 240 lbs…not a small thing…on so many levels).

    4. My house. is. CLEAN(ish)!

    5. We are going on a proper full-fledged exotic vacation in the spring. Booked and paid.

My good friend is going to come over and hang out on Friday night.

I am going to go stay with a different friend overnight in a few weeks, and I will get a whole night of uninterrupted sleep!

I am wearing shiny red shoes.

    – Alice and I are home ALL DAY TODAY

    – I’m sewing again this week and it certainly makes me happy! Maybe Swistle is due for her very own Sockpod? Hmmm?

I have coupons for $7 off diapers and wipes at Babies R Us to use this weekend.

My brother is coming over tonight for his bi-weekly standing babysitting gig so my husband and I get a night out.

I subscribed to HBO OnDemand and can now catch up on True Blood.

I kid you not as I was writing this comment, my brother emailed to tell me he wasn’t feeling well today and so we are skipping this week. Sorry, that is against this.

my new puppy housetrained himself, which is an actual miracle. also, he SITS AND WAITS for his dinner bowl, a thing he also taught himself, instead of rushing madly at my ankles and being a rowdy nuisance (looking at YOU, older dog!)

it has cooled off just enough that the roses are blooming again, and I could smell them when I went to sleep and when I woke up this morning.

The IT Crowd (british tv) is as lighthearted and excellent as everyone said it would be.

I had to stop baking (celiac disease) 15 months ago which was crushing as it was a big stress relief, and now I can bake again because 1. touching flour no longer gives me hives and 2. I have a wildly enthusiastic recipient for the baked goods.

I have learned to make snickerdoodles and they make the house smell EXCELLENT. almost as good as the roses.

The kids who work for me are really kind and decent to each other in what is becoming an increasingly stressful workplace. Watching how they manage to be thoughtful and funny and generally pretty great to one another is very uplifting for me. Imagine it: 11 people between 20 and 28, providing customer support for various electronic devices at a large state university to students, staff and faculty, and they just spontaneously act right to each other all the time. They remember birthdays, they help each other with difficult customers, they give each other rides, pick up lunches, help with schoolwork, suggest dentists – they’re good, decent kids, and they are delightful.

    2) My twelve-year-old started eighth grade today! Not quite as much weeping over that one, to be honest. Twelve-year-olds can be lippy, moody little people.

    3) Thanks to (1) and (2), it’s just me and the baby, who has started singing Queen at sixteen months. Today I’m going to take him out and buy him little sneakers with flames on them. We will rock you!

I have a job interview on Friday! At a fairly prestigious private school! That I didn’t even apply for, but the headmaster (whose wife I’ve worked with in a different school and whose children my mom used to take care of) called me up yesterday and told me to contact the Director of Middle School so that he can meet me!

It was so random, and exciting, and while it’s a LONG SHOT that I’ll actually get this particular job… it just made me feel all giddy that the headmaster of a prestigious private school phoned me in a favour and now I get to walk into an interview without the agonizing “application is submitted, wait to hear something” time period!
