Bleach Shirt Book Stack

I totally ruined a plain magenta t-shirt by getting a splash of bleach on it right in the belly-button area. Since it was trash-bound anyway, I got adventurous in an attempt to save it.

I used Q-tips dipped in bleach. I was originally going for flowers, but it ended up being fireworks. I wore the shirt yesterday and thought it looked cute.

Here’s my latest library stack. I estimate I’ll read one book all the way through, start and reject three books, and never get around to the others.

In case the titles aren’t clear, they are:

  • The Little Giant of Aberdeen County, by Tiffany Baker
  • Bitch Creek, by William G. Tapply
  • The Little Stranger, by Sarah Waters
  • The Believers, by Zoë Heller
  • Here’s the Story: Surviving Macia Brady and Finding My True Voice, by Maureen McCormick
  • I’ll Scream Later, by Marlee Matlin
  • The Other Queen, by Philippa Gregory
  • The Necklace: Thirteen Women and the Experiment that Transformed Their Lives, by Cheryl Jarvis

Clever shirt solution. I’ve only read one entire book in your stack, The Other Queen. I liked it. I started the Little Stranger but never finished it. Good luck!

Maybe this will help narrow your stack down. I recently checked out The Little Giant book and could not get into it at all. I read about 2 chapters and took it back to the library – and I love to read!

LOVE the shirt fix! I would have never known unless you told us. When I was younger I worked at a touristy beach shop where we sold shirts almost exactly like that for big $$$. You may be onto something! ;)

i’ve read exactly zero of those books. whoopsie. i’m finishing up The Shadow Of The Wind right now, and i’m SUPPOSED to be getting a new book from bookmooch, but this woman has been sitting on my book for a month now w/o sending it. harumph.

I’m on a major library kick. I’ve been reading three books or so a week. I blow through some of the fluffier ones. Right now I’m really enjoying The Woman in White.

I’ve read the Maureen McCormick book and it was very interesting. I had no idea what her life was like.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Notes on a Scandal, so I’m interested in hearing if you like the Heller book. You know, if that’s the one you read through.

I’m glad I’m not the only one with Tori Spelling on my summer reading list. I figure that’s why libraries were made, right?
I read Bitch Creek – pretty darn good.
Thanks for the reminder to update my library book request list.

I am also drawn to the Bitch Creek title! I haven’t read any on your list…I need to branch out more.

Right now I’m reading The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. It took me a little while to get into it, but by a quarter of the way through it really captured me.

I’ve been on a big library kick, too. Right now, I’m reading Dark Watch by Clive Cussler. It’s awesome!

Our library has an enormous collection of Agatha Christie mystieries. All I’ve got to say about those is: WHY did I wait so long to read them?!

I love the shirt. I would never have thought to do that. I haven’t read any of the books. I am reading The Doctor’s Wife and it seems to be good. I think Bitch Creek sounds cool.

Another one who has read The Other Queen! I enjoyed it muchly. But then I love anything to do with the Tudor era. Haven’t read any others in your stack, though.

Great fix on the shirt, I also think it looks cute! I had a stack of books checked out from the info center at the school where I work for “summer reading”. I finished one of five and am embarassed that it was the only fluff romance piece in the pile. I’ll have to hang my head in shame when the media specialists ask me how I liked the others.

The shirt is divine! That would be such a fun thing to do on little kid clothes too! I wonder if those bleach pen things would work? Anyway..

I’ve read not one of those books…I’m on a non-fiction kick after a couple of years of only fiction. I’m so tempted to check out Tori Spelling’s book, as someone else said. I just bought myself The Gentle Art of Domesticity for my bday, and I’m super excited to start it!

    Happy reading, Mama!

I also took out “Queen” this week. Huge fan of the Gregory books, not-so-much of the multi-narrator books, though, so we’ll see how it goes. Post a review if you finish it/have time.

That bleaching shirt idea is inspired. Makes me want to do one w/ a dark blue shirt, make like a starry night thing. Also, I didn’t know there was a new Sarah Waters out. Sweet!

That shirt is super cute! I have one like that from old navy but I BOUGHT it that way.
Man seeing your books and realizing I don’t know a SINGLE title is a little gentle reminder that I really suck at reading! (at least anything NON parenting related)

I have not read any of those but I just finished The Elegance of the Hedgehog and WOW…I think it is the best book I’ve read in a very, very long time.

I’ve always wondered what to do about bleach…good idea! Although the one shirt I kept to wear around the house eventually a hole wore through where the bleach spattered.

Very clever with the shirt! It looks great. That’s the beauty of the library–you don’t have to read anything you don’t want to because you haven’t REALLY paid for it. Enjoy!

I love the shirt! we used to do that kind of stuff with my grandma when we were little and I loved it.

And if you can find time to read, so can I! You’ve motivated me to dust off the old library card.

Totally righteous save with the T! I love it but I gotta ask: How does the bleach not eat through the fabric? Seems like when I hold onto a bleach splattered T (cause I wear it around the house and don’t care what it looks like), the spot turns into a hole toot suite. Does it depend on how MUCH bleach you use or how long it stays on the fabric?

It remains to be seen. I did the bleach marks as the washer was filling, and tossed the shirt in right after—but I’ll give an update later if the bleachy areas turn to tatters. Particularly if they do so all at once, and at an inopportune public moment.
