The Chicken Game

So. Finally. My friend Maureen has posted about The Chicken Game. Finally the great Shroud of Mystery regarding Tiny Chickens and Their Purpose can be lifted. It is a great day for all of us. Please, friends, enlighten yourselves. (Edit: Maureen also did a follow-up post for frequently asked questions, and here’s the info on the Flickr group.]

Two rounds of The Chicken Game at The Swistle House:

In Swistle’s jewelry box

In Swistle’s medicine cabinet

Obviously you are going to want to leave now for a craft store to find your own chickens, but HOLD UP. There are ALSO a couple other ways to obtain a chicken of your very own:

1) Win a Swistle Care Package. I’ve sent out a chicken in each of the last three packages I mailed, so THREE of you have chickens already. I’ll put a chicken in the Happy Niece Day Package, too, and in the next few care packages as well, until I run low on chickens.

2) Beg Maureen. She has a few extra chickens and is not afraid to use the postal service to help her spread her Message of Chickens.

3) Or, yeah, go to a craft store. The chickens are sold in little tiny clear plastic rectangular boxes, twelve chickens to a box, and if I remember correctly they cost $1.99. You and 11 friends can play The Chicken Game for only 16.5 cents per family, plus applicable tax!

I am very confused. I understand you hide the cute chickens (or is it just one?) somewhere for someone to find. But….then what happens? Does that person have to return the chicken to you somehow? Or pass it on? Do you just buy more and more chickens and hide them in random peoples’ houses? How will they know they are from me? Did your husband hide the chicken in your jewellry box? I NEED A DETAILED HOW-TO GUIDE BECAUSE APPARENTLY I AM TOO DUMB TO FIGURE THIS GAME OUT!!! (But I want to understand….)

So, we just play it around the house with each other. I would like this, but my husband would probably not play along. hmmmm
I wish I’d known about this game back in college!

    So, SO cute!

Reminding me of a short story where a woman having an affair keeps leaving jellybeans in strange places in her lover’s house.

Except yours are in your own house, and cuter, and won’t mold if they are unfound.

I actually have one of those chickens blue-tacked to the top of my computer monitor. A friend sent me some Easter cakes last year and the chicken was in the parcel.

Now I have a desperate urge to buy more chickens, and leave them in people’s houses.

Katie- We’re playing The Chicken Game in our household, so everyone in the household is a TCG player. If I hide the chicken and Paul finds it, Paul silently rehides it; he doesn’t SAY he found it, he just rehides it. Then whoever finds the chicken Paul hid, THEY get to re-hide it.

BUT, as The Chicken Game spreads, it’s the kind of thing that gets a little more complicated. I think you could leave one in someone’s house, and then just casually tell them about The Chicken Game, and then later they’d find the chicken and go “!!!” Or you can do what Maureen and her friends do, which is bring the chickens on road trips and include them in photos, and bring them to events such as weddings and sneak them into photos.

I’m so stopping at Hobby Lobby on my way home.
My sister and her husband used to play a game similar to this only with a little stuffed squirrel named The Flying Squirrel. We almost wet our pants laughing one day when we found him lurking from the top of her kitchen cabinets. It’s hard to explain, but it IS funny! And I know my silly man will be game. For a chicken game.

    that’s adorable!
i used to have a game kinda like that with those cat toy mice, that are grey and covered with real fur? you know the ones?

i would put them all over people’s houses and at the job.

i guess it wasn’t so much a game as it was… well… mean.

Oh crapity, crap, crap! I think I tossed out the last of those damn little chicks after stepping on them a zillion times in my daughter’s room. Hmmm, seems she’s outside playing, this would be a good time to double check for chicks. Later Chickadees!

OH OH OH! I’m SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

I’ve been holding onto my chick since I got my (awesome) Swistle package. It’s like FIND JESUS but ALL YEAR LONG.

    FUN.

We played this in college with an old stuffed Humpty Dumpty my roommate had christened “Humpy” when she was a toddler. Humpy showed up in the mini-fridge with ski goggles, in my bed with lacy underthings, and once on the outside of our dorm window in Rambo gear. I have to find those pictures! This is a fabulous game, whether it’s chickens or a lumpy toy with a terrible name.

RSJ- Maureen’s got a Flickr group, but I’m new to this Flickr thing and am not sure what to link to. She’s going to do a thing? about the stuff? soon. And I’m going to get with the program and learn to use Flickr.
