Today Wendy is right: it’s impossible to choose a frame if the site background color is not the same as the wall color. So I’ve taken down the Tiffany Swistle Blue temporarily, replacing it with the cream color of our walls.

Now I am EVEN MORE CERTAIN that C is the correct answer.
Ok, still like M & N. the darker mats look worse with the light color than the blue.
SO hard to decide. I love N, O, and P.
I still like E or F.
O.
O is perfect. Also, I like the cream color. I apologize for calling your walls white.
Still L or Q.
Or maybe K. I do like K.
I think I like Q. Good luck : )
I could barely decide what to wear this morning, let alone this pressure!
I prefer darker frames though, just like how I prefer darker furniture.
My two pennies.
Actually?
Upon third (fourth) glance, I’m going to have to vote for P.
L, definitely.
I said B before but I think definitely M
Wow, I got Swistle to redecorate her blog!
I’m still liking the light mat best (on my monitor the medium mat almost, but not quite, matches the eggs which bothers me), but now I’m preferring the dark frames to the light frames. The browner frames are picking up the colour in the flowers (which I like). I’d probably go with Q because I like a nice fat wood frame…
Q. Or M if you prefer a metallic frame. For me it would depend on the other frames I have in the general area.
I still think F is the best, but I like M now that I can notice the mat.
Since you want to focus on the eggs, my preference was for the lighter shade matte. I even squinted my eyes and I can see the eggs better with the lighter shade. :)
Nicole
I still like my choices, but I’m leaning a bit more towards L
I like D the best. I think the eye is drawn right to the eggs in that choice.
I personally think Q is best if you want the eggs to stand out. light matting and dark frame makes the eggs stand out more.
:)
That changes things. :)
Still K, but now O also looks right. I retract my earlier offerings of L and P.
In summary, K and O. Good day.
Q. For sure.
The eggs jump out the most to me with P, but I’m always hesitant to put too light a frame on a cream wall. My first immediate choice was M. But after reading everyone else’s comments, I’m liking P and Q!!
D & P, for sure!
er, I meant E and Q – had a little mixup on which letters went to which image.
I still like D best.
I am not voting, just wanted to say I love the egg idea. Years ago my mom got a pretty painting of a mother duck with four little ducklings following her, and I thought then, oh precious! And I thought the same of your little eggs in the nest thing!
I like the ones with the darker matte, and the bronze-colored frames. I think in order to bring out the blue of the eggs, the matte needs to not match, but make some connection, and the bronze frames bring out the next colors without being matchy-matchy.
A or C. That’s my vote, and it’s partially because I experienced overload once I got past F so just chose the one from the beginning that I liked best.
But the dark mat is the one I like anyway.
I love the idea.
I really like M with the cream walls…I think the lighter mat & a bit of stylized frame really draws your attention to the center of the picture–the eggs!
the medium blue took my eyes straight to the egg!!! i’m not sure about the frame….thats preference but i think the medium blue is the matte color for sure!
Wow, Swistle. I’m not sure this is even being helpful; sounds like so many people are choosing so many different things! It comes down to personal preference, I suppose.
I wrote it on the last entry, but I’ll say it here too. I personally think the darker matte is nicer with this picture, because it draws my attention to the whole picture more; and once your attention hits the picture, you notice the eggs right away.
With the lighter ones, the picture fades into the matting and I’m not really looking at the picture or the eggs; just at the whole thing of light colour (it becomes blah, I feel).
But, I’ve switched from the white frames now that I’m seeing the “walls”. So now I like A or C.
I very much think that A achieves your goal of drawing the eye to the eggs. The lightest color seems to draw my eye, and all of the lighter frames and mattes distract rather than enhance the eggs.
I wanted to say, also, how wonderful it was for me to read your blog about wallowing and to hear your journey as you make peace with what is. I have neither kids nor husband nor prospects at age 37, no brothers or sisters, my mother passed away a couple of years ago, so there’s just my father, and I am sad about all of that. But realizing that you, with such family wealth, also have things to mourn, somehow that makes me feel better, not so alone, while I am sad for you. I’m not sure why your posts have that effect; I would think I would feel more jealous or upset, but I don’t. I feel…less alone. Thank you for the company.
Kim- Oh, good! Because hearing myself complain makes me want to kick myself in the head!
My vote is for O. I think (in the picture at least) Q’s frame color is so close the color of the nest that it could seem too matchy-matchy. Other things to consider (which you may have already–I haven’t read through all comments) is what else is on the wall where you’d place this? You want it to fit in. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll choose well. These kinds of decisions paralyze me!
(P.S. The Daily Grommet contest drew me out of lurking and now here I am with this monster comment).
I still say M
After knowing the color of the walls, I change my vote to D.
Have you noticed your most fashionable readers are saying Q? I thought so…
I like K or L. When the frame and background are light, the bright blue eggs stand out more.
Ivory mat. You don’t want any blue competing with the eggs. From there you want a frame that goes with your decor. Leaving your decor out of the picture I would chose a simple white washed frame.
