Spacing and Baby Names and Killer Spiders and Italian Sweet Cream

  • I’m about to go to Target. It is really fun to have older kids and younger kids at the same time. I love when the baby talks to Rob and Rob answers so kindly. Henry says “AH-LO!!” (hello) and Rob says, “Hello, Henry!” in the same “you sweetie!” voice we grown-ups use. Or just now, I heard a crash and a baby starting to fuss, and I heard Rob saying in that same grown-up voice, “Oh NO! Are you o-KAY? There! You’re okay!”
  • I stupidly sent my sister-in-law and brother, who are expecting MY NIECE in February, a snarky article about baby names. I didn’t read it very carefully; I was just like, “Oh, this is about baby names, it is relevant to them!” But it was so snarky! And it turns out that about 80% of the snarking was in the direction of names actually on their lists! And not only that, in the direction of names I would LOVE to have on a niece! So now if I don’t get a niece named Ruby, Flannery, or Matilda, it is totally my own fault!
  • I’m so glad Halloween is over. I’m kind of a BIG CHICKEN, and I get scared/startled by Halloween merchandise. In our neighborhood there’s a huge fake spiderweb with a fake PERSON caught in it, with the person’s head…removed by the spider. And it is FREAKING ME OUT. I want to see CHRISTMAS decorations now, please!! Nice happy snowmen and jolly Santas, is what I’m thinking! No more killer spiders!
  • I am SUCKING DOWN the coffee this morning. I’m getting a cold, and I need the artificial energy. Plus, I want more of the Italian Sweet Cream creamer, which I love.
  • I wish I could format this with a space between each bullet point. This whole big solid block of text is FREAKING ME OUT. [Edit: My dad told me how to do this! Enjoy the pretty spaces!]

It is a good thing you are on your way to Target, because I have a sneaking suspicion that your Christmas decoration wish will be fulfilled in their wondrous aisles! In fact, I’m beginning to think I just might need a trip to Target this morning myself.

I love cute Halloween decorations, like the smiling pumpkins and such. I am a complete sucker for the folk arts-y type stuff so I pretty much have to avoid shopping today as it’s all on sale!

    Bring on the snowmen!

Yes, I like the older-kid-younger-kid thing, too. You can see the younger kid just glow.

Ha! about the baby name article. Flannery is cool, and I might use it in my other, offbeat and daring life. Ruby and Matilda still have whiffs of mildew about them so those aren’t terrible losses. (You could send the article to me. Baby names are always relevant to my life, even when I’m seventy-five and not likely to have another one.)

Yes to the solid-blog-bullet-point thing. I’ve run into that problem and I dislike it. But hey, I read your post anyway.

Ruby is now the second most popular name for girls in England and Wales – so no mildew here! I think it is good to get the snarky view of a name too – better forewarned I say.

I should send you a piture of this yard in my neighborhood.

A, er, LIFE-SIZED GUILLOTINE, dude. Complete with a decapitated person. OI.

    SRSLY.

The PG-13 house, we call it, right before we stopped walking by it in the morning. The Nephew asking, ‘What IS DIS?’ freaked us BOTH out.

I’m headed to Target later today!

I cannot deal with Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. It’s just one of the quirks in my makeup. :)

I’m glad the Halloween decorations are going away, as they’re a bit much for me lately, but I’m not ready for Christmas yet! November 29th I’ll be ready.

And is it bad that I’m intrigued by the snarky article that you sent?

Just read the article, and good heavens. Sounds like the author needs several large cups of coffee with Italian Sweet Cream creamer. Some artificial personality enhancement wouldn’t go amiss.

Hey, the Word Verification is Treva. Think we should send that suggestion to the blogger and see her lip curl a bit more, just for fun?

Yes, thank goodness Halloween is over! I find it scary for so many reasons, not the least of which is the enormous and freaky witch that randomly makes noise and moves right in the middle of our grocery store. Not family friendly at all!

Ah! Just looked at the article and Harper’s name was one of the no-no’s. Well I would like to point out that we were not trying to be hip (which should be painfully obvious to anyone who knows me even remotely) and I now have a semi-sinking feeling that the name is going to be everywhere soon.

I stand by it though, I love it.

Target is totally the best store ever. I also am excited about Christmas decorations. There is a house near me that has like a ton of stuff and when my cousin was like 4 or 5 we drove by it and he said that is where Santa lives. Now I think of that house and where Santa lives and I can say that he lives down the street from me.

Who makes that Italian Sweet Cream coffee flavoring? Sounds yum.

I think it’s MUCH better to have read those articles BEFORE we name the baby. We still like the names we liked before, and one snarky lady won’t stop us. In fact, I want you to send us every single snarky article you find!

Oh, so sweet – when I hear about your big kid taking care of the little one, it make my uterus ache.

I think my big girl (she’s 8) would be a fabulous big sister, and my little girl (5) probably even sweeter. But the trouble is… oh, the exhaustion. Plus, oh, the husband.

Anyway, love hearing about your adorable kids…. :)

Lotta coffee today, can you tell?

Wow, article is horrible. The names the author mentioned and linked to include my own, my husband and several adult friends. Color me surprised that all our parents were hipsters 30-40 years before the phrase was coined.
