Tum

My brother and my sister-in-law are here for a short visit, and I got to see my sister-in-law’s tum. My NIECE is in there! I was in the same room as my niece! Oh, and I suppose it’s “their daughter,” too, whatevs.

It was so exciting. I was sort of struck with awe about it. There is a BABY in there, and it is a new member of our family! My sister-in-law said, “She’s been kicking,” and I was, like, SHE! She she she! Because she is a PERSON! A person who is a SHE! She’ll be a REAL PERSON, and I’ll probably know her my WHOLE LIFE! And yet right now we don’t even know her NAME or what she’ll LOOK like!

Babies are so neat.

P.S. Work It, Mom!, the site where Linda and I do our column Milk and Cookies, has a new section called Problem Solved: various writers answering common reader questions. I have one posted today about cheap skincare, but there are also posts up about homeschooling, low-carb lunches, reducing morning chaos, weight loss tips, etc. It’s not a niece, but it’s a pretty neat new baby anyway.

I’m going to be an aunt any minute/day now. We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl and they’ve kept their name choices a secret. I have to say that I think about my little sister and her big tum at least once every 5 minutes. I’m so excited for my sister to be a mom and I can’t wait to smell that little baby head.

Congrats (again) on becoming an aunt. I’m not one yet, but I can’t wait!! My only little brother is getting married in May of 09.

Does your brother and sister-in-law have a name? Are they not telling until she is here? I guess we aren’t allowed to know that name but do they know yet?

I am glad there is someone else out there as happy and excited to be an aunt as I am. I was with some girlfriends and we were talking nieces and nephews and one said, “Well, I like them fine…but I don’t go apeshit like you.” That is me, I am nutso about my nephew! Congratulations on the new baby!

I too can’t wait to be an aunt. I mean, I’m an aunt in law, but I want my sisters to have kids, too. I have THREE sisters, all close to my age, but so far I am the only one to have spawned. And it looks to remain that way for some time. Boo.
Other people’s pregnancies always wow me too. Three of my friends are pregnant right now, and it’s amazing me to watch their bellies grow, even though I all too familiar with the process.

    It is truly mind-boggling.

Is your brother younger than you? I know you went over this once, but I can’t remember if you’re oldest or youngest.

ANYWAY, with my little sister pregnant, there’s something ESPECIALLY COOL about it. Like, she’s just a KID (not really, she’s 27) and she’s having a KID. It’s wild.

Oh I’m so jealous that you’re going to be an aunt. My sister will never marry or have kids… and my BIL shouldn’t (but I’m sure he will eventually) and my SIL has a 9 year old but they live forever away and I met her when she was 3. I can’t wait to see how you spoil HER :)

I’m an Aunt-in-law to 7 wonderful neices and nephews and its so amazing. We go out for ice cream, snuggle on the couch and read books, and play in the backyard. And then their parents give them baths and put them to sleep. You’re very lucky to live near them, it makes the relationship even better.

I talked to my sister last night after reading this post, and she and my BIL have adopted a puppy! Not the same as a niece or nephew but still lots of fun to play with at the holidays! :)

My brother is 23 and I can bet you it’ll be years and years before he spawns…

I can’t wait for him to know the joy I have with my boys and my future little one (which is kicking right now too, wishing you were close enough to feel…)

How much longer do you have to wait to become an aunt?

I also get all excited and shouty around pregnant people and babies…All like this is a SUCH and AMAZING MIRACLE! don’t you THINK???? If YOU and HIM hadn’t met, then this ENTIRE NEW PERSON, right IN THERE- would not exist…don’t you think it’s UNBELEIVABLE… HUH?? and then people think I’m wierd so it’s nice to know that other people act like this too.

You’re so good at expressing why babies are exciting. And that’s important, because “why babies are lots of work” is much easier to express. My sister-in-law was just as excited as you when I was pregnant with my first, and it did a world of good to my anxious doubts about whether this would be a good change in my life.
