Running and Headboard

I tried running again last night. Nope, still hate it. The thing I hate most about it is the time it takes in addition to the running part: the changing clothes, the stretching, the cleaning up afterward. I can make myself give up 30 minutes of free time to exercise, but not the hour it actually takes. Too bad, body. You lose.

Do you like this “dollhouse” headboard?

I came VERY CLOSE to buying it for Elizabeth yesterday. It was $300 down from $1500. But $300 is still $300 even if it’s “down from,” and that price doesn’t include the frame (just the headboard itself), and it’s HUGE for her small room (it’s 5’4″ tall), and those cubbies would look cluttered unless they were carefully and decoratively arranged, and she probably wouldn’t want it anymore once she was in middle school, so…. Well, it was a hard decision.

So cute, but I never would have bought it for Harper. She would have climbed it. Or broken the doors off. Or insisted on using it to store her treasures, like rocks and old postcards and a broken pair of sunglasses. I would have been in a constant state of crabby despair over why she couldn’t just keep the ($300!) headboard looking nice.

I love it! I could totally see it in my B’s room, but she’s five so less safety woes. And then she’d want it gone in 4 years when she’s too cool for it. So I really see your points. Probably okay that you passed.

I LOVE it, but she would outgrow it too fast. I cannot imagine spending $1500 on it, even if you were loaded. Now, if you could get it on Craig’s list or something for $50-150, I would totally go for it.

You are asking for the messiest place of all time with that headboard! I’m an adult and I would probably use it to store shoes and books and candy.

Oh, I fall back on my Christmas Decoration Rule: No decorations bigger than I am. As I’m a mere 5’3″, it’s a no go. (:-D

Too much opportunity for clutter as a headboard but I think every girl should have a doll house.

That’s something an aunt or grandma should buy–totally impractical but still irresistable. :)
See, I feel exactly the opposite about running. It’s about the only exercise I can think of that just requires me to change clothes and shoes and run out the door! Versus go to gym, change clothes, wait for available machines to do workout, or shower before entering pool, shower, change back, go back home…:p

I wouldn’t get it either, in spite of its being extremely cute.

    1) things that are too big for a room are clutter

    2) you’re right, she’d eventually hate it – and you’d have to get a new bed and then you’re left with a big piece of clutter

It’s SO hard to pass on things that are that cute, isn’t it? It is absolutely adorable, but she’d probably be better off with an actual dollhouse that wasn’t attached to her bed.

What sort of exercise do you LIKE to do? I am of firm belief that one will only continue to perform a type of exercise if one likes it a lot.

I really like the headboard, and it would have been a good purchase for me to give my first child, if I had had prior knowledge that the three following children would also be girls. One girl would just outgrow it too quickly; you definitely made the right decision.

Also, the best part of running? Stopping.

It is adorable and I would totally be fighting myself not to buy it. My problem would be that I could see her doing a lot more playing at bed time then sleeping.

I completely know what you mean about the prep time for exercising. It was one of the main reasons I quit the gym. Dude, it took me longer in commute time than I was actually working out! I was better off walking around the block at my own darn house.

And I had a giddy-sharp-breath-intake when I saw that headboard. Ohhhh, I just love it. But you make such a good points… I wish *I* could have it.

Here’s another point to make you (and all those who covet the headboard for themselves) feel better about not having it: It would be impossible to prop up a pillow and lean against the headboard. There is a big hole just exactly where you’d want to rest your head! And you’d forget about 800 times and knock down all the stuff that would inevitably get piled up in there.

But, oh, the sale prices are hard to pass up. I have had to remind myself that 50% off is all well and good, but it’s not as cheap as not buying it at all.

Oh I so get the running thing. I was doing so well until the summer schedule messed me up with the wee ones. And I was GOING to go tonight until my husband went to the bar after his baseball game… and didn’t get home until 8:30. 20 minutes to the club, 40 minutes to run and cool down, 30 minutes to shower and change etc 20 minutes to drive home and it’s past my bedtime if I’m going to work tomorrow!

And I would SOOO buy that headboard. I LOVE it. Thank God Little Miss already had a full size bed or it would be in my house now!

Very cute headboard, but since you’ve only got one girl–probably good that you passed.

Anyway, I hate exercise–I think it sucks. I hate being sweaty and changing and all that. I bought a GAzelle–that cheesy thing that Tony Little is always pushing? It works for me. It’s right in the middle of everything and I can hop on in whatever I’m wearing. Also, I can hop on and do ten minutes and then go do baby duty and then do ten more minutes later. I have actually lost weight doing this and monitoring my portions even though people are always telling me there’s no way it’s really exercise.

Gosh, I should sell the things or something, huh?

Running is boring. No wonder you hate it.

The headboard is super cute, but if it doesn’t include the bed frame, mattress, and a matching sheet/comforter set, it’s not worth $300.

Wait, you are STRETCHING? Well, you can CUT THAT RIGHT OUT. Pfft. Hee. Sorry about the running. I guess it doesn’t hurt to try again every once in a while just to be sure you still hate it.

I would buy that headboard…FOR MYSELF. And then I would keep remotes and snacks and bottles of wine and such in there.

it’s ridiculously sweet, as in it’s giving me a cavity but…i had a bookcase headboard when i was a kid. at least once a week, i woke up in the middle of the night because my head was wedged up in there.

by now you’ve probably made a decision but thought i’d throw that in just in case. :)

So cute, but I think you made the right choice.

As for stretching, I always used to skip it but then I read somewhere (at Curves I think…) that stretching accounts for up to 30% of weight loss. (or maybe it was more, but I can’t remember!) Now I never skip it even though it seems like a waste.

As cute as that headboard is, I think you made the right decision because yes, she will want to completely re-do her room once she hits middle school.

I admire your restraint!!!!!!! If it was, say, $100, I’d think about it more seriously, but for heaven’s sakes! Plus, those little door things would probably come off/break/open and hit her in the head with their pointy edges. It IS hard to leave a deal like that, though.

I loved the dollhouse headboard! For years I coveted dollhouses and their minature furniture but was never lucky enough to have received one. I do agree that she would have probably not liked the headboard in middle school, I think that’s about the time when I stoped admiting that I was still coveting other people’s dollhouses.

I JUST started the couch to 5k thing from the Cool Runner website. I hate it, but I don’t hate it as much in little increments.

Love the headboard but agree that the love would be short lived.
