Wouldn’t it be funny to call this group fasting idea “Fast Friends”? OMG CHEEZY. BARF. Let’s not.
Here is Erica’s post giving the gist of the fast. It’s not a total starvation fast: it’s about 1000 calories a day. More of a “jump start for a stalled diet” kind of fast. It’s called a “fast,” but my guess is that this is more than celebrities generally eat. Of course, they are CRAZY and UNHEALTHY, but whatevs.
I’m making the modifications Erica suggested: I’m having liquids during the day, and then a meal at night. I’m going to have to take it easy with the coffee, though: I had it for breakfast and for lunch, and now I’m all ZZZZZZING!!! and also a little on the IRRITABLE side. I’m going to make some Crystal Light instead.

I have ALREADY screwed it up. I was at my mom’s house this morning and she was making cookies, and I ate two one without even thinking about it. It wasn’t like I thought, “Oooo, cookies! Screw this fasting thing!”—I just didn’t think of it at all. Then I was on my way home and I was thinking about lunch, and then I thought, “Oh, right—no lunch,” and then I was like “DAGNABBIT!!!!” as I suddenly realized about the cookies.
Well, pooh. I’m not in the habit of this yet, clearly. The temptation was, of course, to then say, “Well, I messed up THIS day!” and go ahead and eat, but that is the road to all kinds of weight issues (purging! drinking full-calorie Coke when you prefer the taste of diet! letting a doughnut in the morning lead to 3,000 additional calories because the day is “ruined”!), so I’m just going, “Okay, fine, that was a genuine mistake, and now let’s just continue with the plan.” (The plan, as you recall, is bitching and whining.)

I am not going down to 1,000 calories per day, but I cut a few extra WW points out of my schedule for the week, and I’m already grumpy about it. You and Erica and the other participants are saints, that’s all I can say.
Oh I am IN for this! But I missed the original post (just saw Erica’s before this one) because I was moving all weekend, but I’ll start tomorrow! SOLIDARITY!
Jess- For me, it’s harder to do less. Like, if I was going to cut out desserts to be supportive, I’d be really suffering already. But because I’m going more extreme, it’s kind of stimulating and interesting and Different! So there’s like almost an element of FUN to it. (Notice all my qualifying words? Kind of. Like almost.)
I read Erica’s post. I just can’t decide whether to or not. If I decide to do it, I’ll let you know! I’m thinking of going more the route you are, eating a meal that I can chew for supper.

Omaha Mama- I know! One thing you could do is try it and see. Like, I’m fully expecting drop-outs, quite possibly including myself.

I’m proud of you for getting back on the wagon after the “cookie incident.” So far, I haven’t cheated, but I’ve got six long days to go.
Because of all my stomach problems, I do soup fasts all the time. Which isn’t all that extreme, but it sure does suck.
I would just like to offer, again, my support for everyone participating. I’m wishing you all lots of will power!

oooch, what a difficult thing to do! Fasting sounds pretty awful to me.
Swistle… I’m pretty sure Erica meant you can have as many caffeine-free and sugar-free drinks as you want, not as many caffeine drinks as you want.
I cannot participate, but Erica does have my full sympathy. It really is hard to fathom giving up food. I love food and think about it all the time.
What an awesome idea!! I missed this yesterday, but I think I could do it. My biggest issue would be knocking out my one coke a day, but since I’m down to one, I can cut out that one! Other than that I drink water all day anyway. I just need to cut back on my grazing and have one smaller meal.
Count me in!! I’ll do the last six days :D I’ve needed to jump start a real diet anyway!!

Pann- I probably shouldn’t keep calling it a fast, since it’s really just a big calorie reduction–a medical fast in that it goes below the minimum recommended daily intake, but not literally no food. I’m going down to about 1,000 calories a day, but not making it all liquid.
Sarah- Yay! I’ll add you.
I vote that we keep calling it a “fast” because “diet” just doesn’t sum up the sheer magnitude of the calorie reduction. “Diet” seems kind of wussy, you know?
Erica- Yeah, I agree. Plus, “diet” doesn’t capture the concept of going long periods of time with no food, only liquids. Plus, “fast” sounds more temporary, and even after just one day I can tell temporary is good.
Uh, I wish I had that kind of restraint. I guess I could TRY it. let’s see – that’s 20 Quaker Caramel Rice Cakes per day. Ok, maybe I could swing it.

I totally get the cookie thing. I had to fast for half a day for a test once and it amazed me how easy it is to just unconsciously pick something up and put it in your mouth.
