I can’t believe I’m about to say this after everything I’ve been through with them, but 1800flowers.com seems to be the best. But there is an IMPORTANT CAVEAT: ONLY get the flowers that are marked as being “hand-delivered by a local florist.” DO NOT GET THE ONES THAT ARE DELIVERED IN A BOX. They are clearly labeled on the site. I have received many bouquets through 1800flowers.com, and every single one that came from an actual florist was gorgeous and lasted forever.

Wow, that marketing blitz they did on me when I found my blog clearly worked!

    Sorry about your friend.

My husband always uses proflowers.com. I’ve had flowers last WEEKS from them. We’ve use 1800flowers.com once or twice because we had coupons and they were sub-par.

Then again, almost all of these places use local florists, so it depends on that as well.

Not sure what your friend is in there for, but if she can have food, my favorite thing to send in lieu of flowers is Edible Arrangments. SO SO SO SO SO good.

Does she like fruit? I LOVE edible arrangements. You can have chocolate covered strawberries made into a bouquet of flowers.

Hope she is just there to have a baby and nothing serious. TAPs.

I second (fourth?) the 1800flowers rec, but I’ve had great luck with almost anything I’ve gotten from them, local florist or not. EXCEPTION: Roses. Do not get roses there. But everything else = awesome.

My husband used ProFlowers and it was good, and so did my grandmother (with weird requests like “no daisies or carnations and no bow on the vase” which they honored) and it was be-yoo-ti-ful.

I’ve always used 1800.flowers.com and never had any problems. The recipients of the flowers I’ve sent have always said they were beautiful and lasted a long time.

I hope your friend is alright- I love ProFlowers, my family and boyfriend always used those while I lived out of state. They were always fresh and beautiful.

I have used both Pro Flowers and 1800 Flowers. I agree, make sure to go the direct from florist/grower option b/c they last much longer. Hope nothing serious. Oh and edible arrangements and or cookies by design are really great alternatives to actual flowers!

Sorry about your friend. Edible flowers are great. Usually I go for whatever is under the “sympathy” category–something tasteful and muted.

My sister had a baby a couple weeks ago and I sent flowers with ftd.com. They were beautiful, from a local florist, and delivered in less than a day.

    ProFlowers.com, hands down.

I’ve sent and received a dozen times and been VERY happy.

Search for a coupon code to save even more.

I’ve had at least THREE bad experiences with FTD and 800Flowers, since they send the orders to local florists who may or may not give two hoots about your order.

Proflowers.com has been exceptionally professional and beautiful each and every time without fail – great, fresh flowers and great prices.

*No, I do not work for them :)

Oh, I am sorry your friend is not feeling well. My advice for very prompt delivery is to just call the gift dept. at the hospital — they will get the flowers to your friend with a nice note much faster than any of these other services and MUCH MUCH cheaper. You can send a bigger and nicer arrangement that way, it gets there super quick and everyone wins (well, in terms of the flower delivery anyway). Otherwise, go with ProFlowers — we love them.

My preferred way to send flowers is to find a florist in the same town as the recipient because you can save some money on delivery charges by going direct, and perhaps get a more customized arrangement than if you fill out an online form.

I could have written the exact same recommendation that “m” did! Proflowers is without question the best!!!

If you want to use a local florist, I would suggest googling “florist” and the “name of the town.” Otherwise, all the fees that the broker company (FTD,800flowers, etc) withholds from the local florist, diminishes the value of your arrangement.

Actually, for flowers now, I go with Edible Arrangments vs flowers. They’re more unique, they’re no more expensive (lots of coupons online if you search), and they have a purpose — they’re edible!

If you’re going with ordering flowers, definitely find a local florist and order from them. MUCH bigger and frequently better flowers for whatever amount you’re willing to spend.

It’s much cheaper to call a local florist and order over the phone. I have had mixed results with the big internet flower companies.

A couple of other people have said this already, but I’ll go on record to agree with them. When I want to buy someone flowers, I google “florist cityX” and find a local florist and call them directly. It’s usually less expensive than going through a big company.

My dad is a floral designer. Go to Teleflora.com and at the very bottom of the screen click on “Find a Florist” and then type in your zip code as it prompts you. Find a florist near you and call them and talk to a REAL. LIVE. PERSON. Tell them what you want and how much you would like to spend, including delivery, and what the occasion is. I recommend sending lilies as they are inexpensive, beautiful and smell oh-so lovely. If the person is out of town, still use a florist local to you. They can arrange to have something sent and if anything goes wrong, they’ll handle it for you.

Sorry you have a friend in the hospital. I hope it’s a she and she’s having a baby.

I always search yelp for the city where i’m sending for florists and call one of the top ranked ones, say I found them on yelp, and that I want a beautiful and creative bouquet for delivery. I have never been disappointed. They always do something more interesting than the standard bouquet, they want to do well because they know you might post a review on yelp, they appreciate that you’re using a local business instead of a big chain, and talking to a live person is always reassuring.

Oh, darn it! I know this is going to be too late, but the Martha Stewart collection from 1.800.flowers.com has some INCREDIBLE arrangements. Spendy, but GORGEOUS.

I hope you found something nice!

Some hospitals and some conditions don’t allow flowers – call and check!!! I think gerber daisies are a great pick!

Also I’m doing a giveaway contest a little late! Stop by!!! Everyone!!

It may be too late for this, but don’t send flowers if she’s having a baby. Please don’t. There’s nothing worse than roaming your home in a constant state of sleep deprivation, miserable, hungry, tired, exhausted AND having to pick up dead flowers off the floor.

Calyx and Corolla are the very best.
