When Valentine’s Day candy was 75% off, I reminded myself that the COST of the candy is IRRELEVANT: the CALORIES are not 75% off.
But today it was NINETY percent off.

The calories fall out when you unwrap the chocolates.
Think of all the extra calories you burned unwrapping them. . . You probably came out with calories to spare!
I know what you mean, I bought the choxie champagne truffles because they were 90% off. No unwrapping involved for me. However, I didn’t bake any goodies at home so that is good right?
whoops. Well, they look like maybe they were at least dark chocolate. That’s something…
Still, the resistance at 75% means SOMETHING. Especially because you averted the crisis of potentially buying candy at 75% AND 90% off. And also, maybe the effort of all that willpower burned some calories?
Chris- What did you think of the Choxie? I got a little box of fancy Choxie truffles and thought the chocolate was pretty low-quality. Fancy-LOOKING, but not fancy-TASTING. And I’m someone who thinks HERSHEY’S is pretty fancy.
Uh oh. Well, it’s just one day. Make the kids help you finish them. I can’t sneek chocolate around my son, he knows what I’m doing. My only chance at enjoying chocolate alone is waiting until naptime or bedtime. Probably best for me. ;)
Oh, all the calories burned cruising through Target looking for deals… that counts for something! Also, if you didn’t eat them within 3 hour of bedtime, that also helps. =)
I like the way you think.
In a situation like this I say it’s time to get political and write a policy. It should go something like this: In the event that food stuffs of a high caloric nature become avaialble to the public (ie, Me) at a discount of greater then 85% then it’s considered wasteful, rude and bad for the economy to ignore said food stuffs and thus must be purchased immediately.
ps- your word verification is beating me down this morning. This is a sign that some caffeine really should be approved for pregnant ladies that used to require an extra large something to get their tush in gear.
what? 90% off? (must restrain myself) I already bought about $10 worth of 75% off junk food. I love after holiday sales. My kids are always going to wonder why they get valentines day candy for easter.
Oooooh. Those are the BEST. I love those truffle things! You totally HAD to do it for that much of a bargain (because those aren’t cheap!)
NINETY percent?!?! Gotta run to the store…
Swistle-One at a time, they are good (dark chocolate w/champagne=yummy!) but more than one and I was thinking “I am so glad these were 90% off, because I would feel ripped off if I paid more than I did” However, in general I think Choxie is not so great.
My fave chocoate (besides Reese’s PB Cups) is from a shop in Chicago called Vosges-OMG BEST CHOCOLATE EVER!!! Pricey, but totally worth every penny.
If you forget that you ate them they don’t count. I ate an entire box of those “Mrs Field’s Premium Peppermint Creme sticks-Refreshing peppermint in rich Dark Chocolate” last night and I hardly feel guilty at all…hardly…
90% off is worth the extra calories right? I hope so because I have a similar (empty) box at my house.
Oh and you have Made My Day! Go check out your award on my blog. :)
Hey, you hung in there two whole weeks, and with hardly a complaint, either. A day off the wagon never killed anyone.
if you eat a bunch of candy all at once it’s.. uh.. better, i think. than having one every day. although come to think of it, it might have been my childhood dentist who told me that, and he maybe was less worried about my hips and more worried about my enamel.
Blogger ATE my comment! Now I’m reluctant to write EXACTLY THE SAME THING because if it somehow shows up, I’ll be embarrassed.
So, for Blogger’s sake, I hope that the comment was 90% off.
And that he choked on it.
Who could blame you when it is the fancy chocolate?? YUM!
I’ve still got a stash of Ghiradelli dark chocolate caramel squares from the post-Christmas clearance. Fancy holly berries on the bags, same chocolately goodness inside!
I, uh, bought a lot. :)
Kristin
“old candy” has no calories. It’s a fact.
Once you go over 80% off, the calories actually disappear completely…
You can say so much with just a few words and a picture. I love that. And I mean, 90% off chocolate… resistance is futile and all that.
Yeah. Me too. I was doing so well until today, when I gave into the urge to chow down on one of the 3 Musketeer bars sitting in our office. They were FREE.
Your boyfriend Target just gets better and better!
ahahahahahahahah hysterical. i love it. also, i’m sick of you and your good target finds. where in the hell do you go in target to find them. is there some magical discount door i need to cross through cuz all i get is full priced stuff! no fair!
Misguided- You know about “shopping the perimeter,” right? That’s when you stick to the end-caps between the store walls and the aisles, as opposed to walking down the main aisles. They don’t want their clearance stuff taking up prime real estate, so they shift it to the ends, and that’s where I find most of my stuff. 90% Valentine’s Candy? That’s the God of No-More-Dieting putting things in my path.
If I hadn’t given up candy for Lent (and cake, and cookies, and pastries, and ice cream-wtf was I thinking???) I would have been buying that stuff at 90% off too! NO worries-it can’t actually be bad for you if it was SUCH A GOOD DEAL!
OMG I LOVE THOSE. I have a small box of them in my purse.
