Baby Diaper Usage, Month Five

I did diaper usage reports for months three and four, month two, and month one, too.

Halfway through this month, Henry switched from size 1 diapers to size 2 diapers. So the first 15 days of the month he was in size 1 diapers, which are $10.60 for 112 of the Target brand we use; and the next 16 days of the month he was in size 2, which are $10.60 for 96 Target brand diapers.

Size 1 diapers are 9.46 cents each ($10.60 divided by 112 diapers in the package). Size 2 diapers are 11.04 cents each ($10.60 divided by 96 diapers in the package).

When he was outgrowing the size 1 diapers, we went up to an average of 7 diapers per day. When he switched to size 2s, we went back down to our usual average of 6 diapers per day.

So for the first half of the month, he used 105 diapers (7 diapers a day times 15 days). Those diapers cost 9.46 cents each, which comes to $9.93.

And for the second half of the month, he used 96 diapers (6 diapers a day times 16 days). Those diapers cost 11.04 cents each, which comes to $10.60.

That’s $9.93 for the first half of the month plus $10.60 for the second half of the month, for a total of $20.53 to keep Henry in disposable diapers for a month.

One of my “fears” about money & baby concerned diaper costs – you always hear about that BUT I’ve been very happy with the Target brand & cost effectiveness of them! We go through about a pack a week & buy one carton every 4 weeks or so – the diapers are not driving us out of house & home! I love that you do this – hopefully calming fears in new mothers about this cost :) And that Henry is one edible little tyke, isn’t he?!?

    What a cutie!

Seems like I should really switch to Target brand diapers! I budget $35 for two mega packs of Luvs per month. I’ve tried Target brand and they were fine. Not sure why I just don’t stick with them. It’s my attention deficit disorder, I think I just forgot.

    Henry is too too cute!

But how is he just now moving into size 2 diapers??? I must have bohemoth children. Andrew was in size 2 diapers at 5 weeks old!!! Of course, he was in 3-6 month clothes then too…hmmmm, I guess that’s a bit ahead of the curve. ;)

Wow! That’s cheap! We switched to cloth diapers to save $. I haven’t keep very good records, but I’m sure I’ve spent waaaay more on cute cloth diapers than if I had stuck with the cheaper diapers.

    And, um, he’s a cutie x 100!

I just bought my last box of diapers about a month ago. That day got here in what seems like the blink of an eye. Nibble on those little baby toes before they can get up and run away from you.

Is it wrong to want to chew chomp on someone else’s baby? He is such a cutie pie!

Now what were we talking about? I can’t think about anything other than chomping chubby baby legs and little bean toes!

He’s in a size two?? My Henry who will be four months old tomorrow, has almost outgrown a size THREE. I’ve got about 200 size 2 diapers that are sitting in my garage. I wish you lived next door. I’d give them to you!!

I had to put word verification back on, too. I took it off for a week and was INUNDATED with spam. Lame!!

I think Henry looks so much like the twins! I love baby thighs.

I use Target diapers, too; and I’m glad you’re keeping track of how much they cost because I’m not. Your mad math skillz make me feel better about how “expensive” babies are. (Well, they are more expensive than *not* having babies, but…oh, nevermind.)

and this is probably one of the most helpful things to know!
i am debating the whole cloth/disp idea (yes, even before i’m prego)
and it is very difficult to guesstimate this stuff.

and, he’s absolutely ADORABLE. so thanks for making a “boring” post so much better!!!

My second granddaughters parents were searching for a less expensive disposable. I remembered you were using Target brand, so I told them to check them out.

They love them. So thanks for the recommendation :)

Henry is such a cutie pie!

Henry is sooooooo cute! I also love it when you do these posts about costs of diapers, it is very reassuring to know babies don’t cost hundreds of dollars every month at this age. Want one. Must have. :o)

I keep thinking, nah, we really shouldn’t have any more kids and then I see pictures like that and oh boy… so yummy.

My wife and I are expecting our first child on April 16th, and thank you for this information as it helps me plan for the cost of a baby on a budget. One question I had though, was approximately how much were wipes per day? I know each day were vary greatly, but do you have an approximate cost per day for wipes? It would be very helpful. Thanks.
