I’m thinking of ordering a couple Old Navy perfect tees. I’ve never bought Old Navy for myself before. If you’ve purchased Old Navy women’s clothing, did you find that it fit large? small? or true to size? I wear two different shirt sizes depending on the brand, and I’m not sure if I should order the larger size or the smaller one.
A second question: How’s the shirt length? I’m tall, and it’s common for shirts to be too short.
They run pretty true to size, I think. I’m wearing an XL one right now, and it accomodates a size 12/14 bod and nursing boobs pretty well, to give you an idea. And nice and long.
My only complaint is that they sort of stretch out a bit and look weird and floppy by the end of the day.
I wear a 14 and wear an XL in Old Navy. I think they run a bit small, I can wear a L at most other stores.
Old Navy runs small in their misses clothing. If you have a lot “up top” it is difficult to get a proper fit on anything under an XL. While I love, love, LOVE their children’s clothing, sometimes it feels as if there isn’t enough material in their adult stuff. Maybe it’s me but the clothing feels really flimsy. The men’s clothing seems better made.
Pretty close to size. The perfect fits are a closer fit, so if you want it to be looser, go for the bigger size. If you want a close fit, go smaller. I think they’ve just made the perfect fits longer, which I also love. They cover my mommy belly and I’m tall too. With the longer fit, the material does seem a little thinner, but I like them still.
I agree…the shirts are very flimsy and don’t hold up well for long. I seem to be able to wear them for about 5 washes before they start to just look crappy.
And it SUCKS. Because I love the styles and I love the prices! I keep buying them even though I say I won’t buy any more! I would say get the bigger size, if you’re in doubt, although they run fairly true to size in my opinion.
If you are in plus size, it seems to me they run wide and short, don’t be tempted, like I was, to buy a bigger size, because the neck hole will be way too big. This is more of a problem with the v neck than anything. Unless I’m totally missing your point and/or you’re not plus size. My perfect tees are a couple summers old though.
I have a freakishly long torso, and the perfect fit tees were long enough in the beginning, but after several washes are too short and leave my saggy mama belly flapping in the breeze. I do find that they hold up well though, other than shrinkage. I also wear their size small maternity shirts, they are no larger than regular shirts, just much longer, although I have no idea if that is also true for sizes other than small. They aren’t as thick as the perfect fit tees and don’t last as well.
I’ve always found Old Navy to be true to size; I wear a small there as well as most other brands, as I have virtually no chest. I’ve also found all their tops to be verrry long in length, which I like, because I tend to layer obsessively.
I find Old Navy to be pretty true to size until the garment has been washed. My frustration with Old Navy tees is that, in my experience, when they’re washed they shrink in length. Maybe, like other folks have said, they’ve made the Perfect Fits longer, which would be awesome. If that’s the case, maybe I’ll try again.
I have really nothing to add that hasn’t already been said. As far as their button-down blouses/shirts go, I have found that they tend to run small.
The plain cotton tops are pretty true to size but, as mentioned, can stretch and look like hell within hours of wearing it. But, I suppose for 3$, it’s worth it if even you have some decent house clothes.
hmmm, i’m with the others that say they run true to size until you wash them. i am pretty short and have had their t-shirts shrink lengthwise to ride up my belly and wear out after just a couple of washes.
on the other hand, they have super long t-shirts and tank tops occasionally that have lasted me for years and even been long enough to be undershirts to cover my pregnant belly when my maternity shirts have gotten too small.
I have found that everything for me runs small. I wear a size 8 normally but in Old Navy I had to buy a 10 or 12. Yikes!
They have a great Deep-V neck tee that is REALLY soft and it’s 2 for $10 – you need a camisole under them unless you are really comfortable with your girls but they are extra long – they cover that area where the muffin top can come into play. I wear the medium and it’s true to size for an 8/10
I love the perfect fee tees. I find they hold up fine. I really am suprised to read the opposite! I have tons of colors and necklines. I find that the length is perfect.
I’m long-waisted. I love ON t-shirts, and I always buy a batch in a bunch of different colors.
They fit for a year or so. Then one day they’re all too short in length. Did I grow (taller)? I think not.

ummm. usually with shirts i can go a size smaller. most shirts are great in length. their tank tops some of them actualy come extra long. an idea..i’m pregnant, gained a ton of weight and my large shirts are still huge from old navy!
I have three Old Navy perfect fit long sleeve tees, and I love them. They’re size large, and I usually fit a size large, so they seem pretty normal to me. I’m ridiculously boobular, too. Also, part of what I love about them is the extra length.
Of course, I bought mine last season on clearance, and I don’t know if the cut has changed. I hope not, because I want to buy a few more this fall!
Oh, and mine haven’t shortened up at all. I wash on cold and dry on delicate, and that seems to work, but maybe I’m just absurdly lucky?
I find their shirts to be wicked short. I’m a size 6-8 on top, and I have a normal torso, I think, and I always feel like after a washing or two, I’m wearing a crop top.
I’m also riveted by the commenter who says that their stuff runs small, because while that’s true with their tops, especially after a washing, I feel like their pants are gargantuan. I’m an 8-10 in pants, and find that after a washing, the pants stretch out beyond all recognition, and are falling off of me. But I think that’s more of a quality issue than a size issue, given that they don’t hold up well to washing.
Ask me if that’s ever stopped me from being lured by the cheap clothing, though. Because HELL NO, it has not.
I used to think their clothes ran big…but now I think they fit pretty true to size.
I second the deep V tshirt. They are CUTE! They do wear out semi quickly (I have to mend one soon)..but they are comfy.
I just bought a pair of jeans there and I am LOVE. They are the Flirt style. They hold the muffin top in.
At this point, it’s really all been said. I agree with the masses- think they fit pretty accurate. They don’t last for ever, but when you are paying $6 for a t-shirt, I’m not expecting to keep it for 18 years. Shoes on the other hand, I expect to last forever.
This might have been said already, but one way to make Old Navy clothes last longer is to never, EVER machine dry them. Always hang your cotton t-shirts, tanks, camisoles, etc. up to dry and it will make such a difference with the shrinking issue. Machine drying will make them shrink length-wise and give your belly button a peep show! =)
I can in no way relate to having a long torso, but I agree that the shirts shrink and also with Jonniker, who said that it’s a whole different sizing story when you are talking about Old Navy pants.
The good news is that the style at the moment is ridiculously long shirts (like over the butt for the average tweener), so you may be in luck there.
I probably should read the comments because my answer will most likely be the same. I’m a size 14 and am just shy of 5’8- the large fits my perfectly. They wash well and don’t do that tummy shrink think where suddenly your baby belly falls out and says hello to your neighbors.
True to size to small (unless you dry them on high heat accidentally!) and pretty long.
I think they are fairly true to size, but they also run a bit big….I think they want their customers to feel better and buy more. I am normally a 2, but can often fit into size 0 at Old Navy.
