Television Series

I never manage to remember what’s on TV or when, and so what I like to do is rent DVDs of TV shows that are no longer on the air. It’s an instant-gratification way to snork down entire series: no waiting a week for the next episode, no waiting all summer for the next season.

But here is the problem: it does me no good to rent DVDs of TV shows that are still currently producing episodes. I accidentally got started on Gilmore Girls and now I’ve seen through season 6 but I have to wait ages before season 7 will be on DVD.

What I need are recommendations for good television series that are no longer being made, so that I can watch the entire series now, with no waiting.

We rent from Netflix and got hooked on The Dead Zone (based on the Stephen King book). It’s not really kid-friendly, though. I’m not sure if it’s still a show, I do know that it airs on USA at, like 1:00 am, hence, the renting.

My dad and sister used to love “The Pretender”. I watched it somewhat. I had forgotten about it until a friend told me she had the series on DVD. I can’t wait to watch that all the way through. Oh and one I liked was “Alias”. That series is now over too.

I second the Alias vote! If you never watched Arrested Development, you need to try that one too, it is hilarious. Um, neither of those are kid friendly either.

    Hi from Sundry’s blog! ;)

We are watching the Sopranos. I think they are still making it, but there’s enough seasons out that it’ll be awhile before you get to the end, and by then the last season will be on DVD, right?

Amazing how I can’t sit through a 2 hour movie but I can watch 4 episodes of this at once.

AAHH!! I thought I was the only person on the face of the earth with a sense of humor, thus my love for Arrested Development. I see there are other fellow geniuses. Definitely must see. I will send you my personal collection if it comes to that, just let me know! Also, Big Love is fabulous. Very expensive to purchase, of course, as it is HBO.

I’ve been doing the TV on DVD thing, too. I recently started 24 and The Wire, and tonight I picked up the first disk of Dead Like Me.

I second the Six Feet Under recommendation. I also really like The Wire, but I don’t think it’s done yet. However, my understanding is that each season is a different storyline.

You could always go for the teenage angst set…but it is much more of a mindless entertainment…Felicity, Dawson’s Creek, 90210 and so on. I’m re-watching Friends myself. The hubby buys each season of Seinfeld when it comes out. Gilmore Girls is worth watching on Tuesday nights though – it’s getting really good!

I also vote for Six Feet Under, one of my FAVORITE shows in the whole world. I cried during the last episode.

Also, I’m a Sex and the City junkie, someday I hope to own the whole set. I have goals, what can I say?

I liked “The Pretender”,too. And if you don’t mind cheesiness, “Charmed” was okay…especially if you find Julian McMahon to be easy on the eyes.

You are going to think this is crazy but Buffy the Vampier Slayer is AWESOME. Don’t let the stupid 90’s movie and silly name fool you. It is full of romance, drama and wit. Watch it and I promise you will not regret it!
